Probably made a fortune on it.

I like Bellingham better than the rest of the area there.

Most people in the state don't live in those counties though. And what a sterling insight. A large populous area can control state politics.

Nobody suggested they did. I thought we were talking about "proportions"?

From your original post:
quote:

You have a few very blue dots surrounded by a sea of purple.

You could make that same caveat for counties on the other side of the mountains too, if you look at their voting proportions.

That isn't true. You do not have blue or red dots surrounded by a sea of purple in a majority of washington counties. You might have a purple dot in Spokane and Yakima surrounded by a sea of red (at best) but in Benton County you have a red dot surrounded by a sea of red. Same goes for the more rural counties. Which was my point. Most cities, towns, counties in the state that you might visit are reliably conservative, not purple. This:

quote:

I'd wager the voting proportions of the whole state are indicative of the overall political culture.

is just not true. Voting proportions would suggest a much more conservative governance than we currently have. Whoever said that outside of a few western WA metros, the state is generally conservative is absolutely right. Central and Eastern WA are not purple, they are reliably red, year in and year out and have been for as long as I've been alive. Of course, the population centers will always give us a Democrat controlled governance, but the "political culture" of a majority of counties in the state is not accurately represented by Inslee and Ferguson.

Well, I didn't say this, if that's who you're referring to.

I lived in Seattle for 2 years.

The people I worked with day to day were all normal.

But as soon as I stepped out of the office....

It's the unemployed losers, the college students, the drug addict burnouts, the hipsters, the service workers, and the tech worker soys that make Seattle so liberal.

There are a lot of those types.

Poor things are having to change gender to get laid these days. Watching the wife get some is probably getting old for them.

The precinct level maps tell a different story, as do the 2016 precinct election maps.

quote:

Voting proportions would suggest a much more conservative governance than we currently have

Maybe. If you remove King County from this last election, Biden and Inslee would still have won, according to my napkin calculations, while the House would seemingly remain the same. Something like 15 counties in the state are within 10% margins on both sides. And read my sentence again, and understand what I mean by proportions, because unless you are meaningfully reading it to suggest that conservative votes are underrepresented and should thus weigh more, it does reflect the reality on the ground for the state as a whole.

They've actually gotten more Dem in comparison to 2016. I'm not exactly sure what point this guy is arguing.

I was one of 10 people who voted Trump in my precinct. Stein got more votes.

This was in New Orleans.

Is Seattle that liberal?

Well, you would have to increase them by what 30% to equal the Dominion Dim weighted formula

Not really. The entire Sound is blue.

Not sure why you’re being downvoted other than from the folks who don’t live here understanding the demographics. Olympia, all the way up through the Sound to Marysville, a very short break, then Bellingham, that’s a lot of area and a lot population and it’s majority blue with Pierce County being pretty split and around Everett. Outside of that, save maybe Vancouver, Port Townsend, the rest of the state is pretty red.

Edit: Saw this has already been covered. South sound resident here.

I've spent a ton of time walking my dog around West Seattle during the pandemic and have refused to wear a mask outside and haven't experienced any negativity.

When I was there in June, and experienced almost universal negativity for not wearing a mask outside, it was near downtown Seattle. I did not go to West Seattle on that trip. Maybe it was different.

Plus, are you saying most people didn’t leave the walking path and take to the street to get past you, because more than half did that when I was there in June. I’m just leaving Seattle now, at Seatac, and on this trip only two people left the walking path to gest past me.

I wanna move out there. Weather seems perfect for me. I worry about the politics though, long term that is. I have friends just outside Portland that say Oregon is the same. All red outside of the "city"

Don't move directly inside Seattle proper. It's not hard to leave politics. Especially if you don't make it a major crux of your daily thought process. That way, the gays won't turn your kids and you won't become an antifa-loving soy boy.
