"... As the ravaging Russia-Ukraine war reached its 115th day, Russian state television broadcasted videos of two United States military veterans on Friday, who went missing last week while fighting alongside Ukrainian troops. According to a report by The Associated Press, Russian state TV confirmed that the two American soldiers were taken hostage, further increasing concerns about their safety. Alex Drueke and Andy Huynh, both from Alabama, US, are thought to be the first Americans taken prisoner by the Russian army since the war with Ukraine began on February 24."

I respect these two guys. They put their money where their mouth is.
As opposed to people with a Ukraine flag on their profile.

Russia previously captured and sentenced to death a Briton and a Moroccan who were fighting for Ukraine. Will they do the same with the Americans? Will the US intervene if they do?

This kind of thing usually results in an unequal prisoner swap with other kinds of compensation. I am not in favor of civilians involving themselves in mercenary activities for this, an other reasons.
Then there is the Brittany Grinner situation. Which, IMO, is another that should have been avoided.
The US has enough difficult problems to deal with without our own citizens creating more problems for our diplomats to contend with.

Why wouldn't they? Honestly. The days of other countries being afraid to frick with Americans are loooooong over.
There was a time in the not too distant past an American could get away with all kinds of shite in almost any country in the world and just walk right out of it.
Being an American once meant something on foreign soil. Now it doesn't mean jack shite.

They're fricking idiots and now they're probably gonna die for a country and people that doesn't give a shite about them.
These two are a couple of fricking morons.

You're assuming though that these two have some sort of strategic/diplomatic/PR value or they in some way matter enough to this Government or it's people that they're worth swapping.
The Russians could kill these frickers or let them go and it would do nothing to improve or worsen American/Russian diplomacy.
In fact, why not kill them? We have a weak President and Government. There will be no retaliation at all. It would be great PR for Putin with the Russian people and inside of 48 hrs, American bullshite indignation would vanish into the internet along with everything else in the world that might matter.
No one cares about Americans abroad anymore.
If I were Putin, these motherfrickers would be Gulag slave labor until the day they died.

If I were Russian, what reason would I have not to? This Administration* hasn't shown the will to support American citizens in trouble abroad.
