Most property tax increases are on 10-year terms. So you admit you are not going to be in an area for more than a few years, but feel justified in sticking people with a 10-year burden?

Those taxes have zero to do with property taxes but congrats I guess

You sound like someone born on second base and claims to have hit a triple.

There's a psychological component.

There would be a mutiny if people had to write a check from their accounts every month to the federal government. Instead, we have payroll withholding and people only focusing on what they take home.

It's similarly easier to vote for a tax(as a renter) that you will never physically write a check for.

Yea, man. Totally born on second base with that huge salary my mom made working at the local high school, and my dad working in the plants. I remember my dad skipping dinner to make sure we all had enough to eat.

My motivation comes from growing up poor.

Imagine the vote if they had to pay sales tax in a lump sum.

Oh, you're standing on first with the rest of us hoping you don't get picked off.

You don't realize how far from second you are now.

I repeated this myth to my girlfriend. She wasn’t very pleased and pointed out that I was wrong. She is now a condo owner and probably pays three times what I do in property taxes.

So what. It's most likely the rent is cheaper, than a house note plus property taxes, plus insurance.

Subjective over time.

Renter leaves and has $0 value from house. Easier to make clean break.

Owner sells and has equity and his note was mostly paid by renter. Harder to make break but mostly more profitable.

If you were you wouldn't be pushing 50 and in a Lake Charles.

You are doing great. But is is still first base in this world. Growing up I would have given my left nut to have that life.

I’m a renter bc I haven’t settled down yet and it’s cheaper for my lifestyle. As someone who pays more taxes than 90% of the population, my vote doesn’t matter?

General population and amount of taxes paid comparisons are attacking a straw man.

How much more or less in property taxes have you paid on your rental home than your neighbors in similar houses/homes who own the homes that they are living in? What happens to you if you don’t pay those property taxes?

When you currently vote for property taxes are you thinking like a long term resident who is going to end up making an investment in the community and neighborhood later and be on the hook for these taxes for decades (including when it comes to bond votes for construction where the future debt payments are funded thru property taxes)?

I am mostly just here to care for my elderly, widowed mother who will not move. I was perfectly fine living in Hermosa Beach until my mom started needing me more so we moved back.

We will not be in Louisiana in retirement. We also still have my wife's house in Indonesia we plan to spend time in.

The 20k in property taxes aint enough to sway a high end home owner.

Most owners in Louisiana bitching are paying less than 5k and bitching like they are personally carrying the state on their back.

For all the renters that have bought into the narrative that renting is better, landlords and big corporations that make lots of money off people willing to listen and believe them as they preach this, want to thank you from the bottom of their greedy hearts. There is an entire generation that will not have a penny to their name or ever own anything. They will owe their souls to the company store as the old song goes. Lease your cars, choose the option to rent your cell phone, never own anything. Might as well just make the minimum payments on your credit cards too. Who do you think is pushing the narrative to convince you this is all the smartest approach? Maybe those that profit from it?

Someone is mad we are funding libraries, assistance for old people, and BREC for the youth. Can’t afford the taxes then move. I have zero issues paying for these things. I have a problem with Landry and politician deciding they want raises and giving themselves raises on my money along with the us senate and us congress. Let’s talk about those people

Homestead exemption is a problem. Value hasn’t increased since 1980. 75k back then is the same as a 500k plus house now. That’s the problem

This week they fired a state employee making +200k for employing 30 or so people to patrol a 5 miles lakefront.

People keep bitching about those poor people though.
