You probably don't know him, but if you went to a university or have kids going, their English professors know and have probably celebrated this guy.
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz accused of sexual misconduct, misogynistic behavior
Of course, everyone knew he was a sleaze:
Some quotes from Award Winning Author Junot Diaz:

quote:
Pulitzer Prize-winning author Junot Diaz has withdrawn from a writers festival amid allegations that he had forcefully kissed a woman and showed aggressive behavior toward others.
Writer Zinzi Clemmons said the incident happened when she was a 26-year-old graduate student. She had invited Diaz to speak at a workshop, but Diaz “used it as an opportunity to corner and forcibly kiss me,” Clemmons wrote on Twitter. Other female writers have since come forward, accusing Diaz of mistreatment and misogynistic verbal abuse.
quote:
In a statement to the New York Times, he said: “I take responsibility for my past. That is the reason I made the decision to tell the truth of my rape and its damaging aftermath. This conversation is important and must continue. I am listening to and learning from women’s stories in this essential and overdue cultural movement. We must continue to teach all men about consent and boundaries.”
quote:
Clemmons also asked Diaz about a recent New Yorker article, in which Diaz revealed he had been raped as a child, and whether it was meant to preempt misconduct accusations against him, according to BuzzFeed. Writer Alexander Luft, who watched the exchange, said on Twitter the audience “seemed to instantly rally around Diaz” and wanted Clemmons to “stop questioning him.”
Of course, everyone knew he was a sleaze:
quote:
EJ Dickson, a deputy digital editor for Men’s Health Magazine, said the accusations against Diaz aren’t a surprise.
“Everyone in the literary world/the media knew this, or suspected it,” Dickson wrote on Twitter. “And yet, when Junot Diaz published his New Yorker Essay — a pre-emptive strike if there ever was one — we gave him nothing but plaudits.”
Some quotes from Award Winning Author Junot Diaz:
quote:
"I never hear white writers get asked, 'Do you worry about how you represent white people?'"
quote:
"Motherfrickers will read a book that’s one third Elvish, but put two sentences in Spanish and they [white people] think we’re taking over."
quote:
"If you didn't grow up like I did then you don't know, and if you don't know it's probably better you don't judge."
quote:
"If you can’t see women — half the species — as human, you can’t see yourself as human."

Thank god, I’ve been waiting patiently to see how Junot Diaz was going to respond.

I know who he is. I met him when I was at an English conference, and he was doing a book signing in the same city.
I’m not surprised to learn this. He seemed like a total scumbag at the time.

So he tried to kiss her?
Not sexual assault.
Not sexual assault.

It’s reached the ludicrous level. My favorite is still the Brokaw allegation. They get drunk, she invites him into her hotel room, he tries to kiss her, she says no, he leaves. RAPE!!! Realistically, I don’t see how anyone is ever going to get laid again under these new rules.

Hello, Hangit.
I will need tons of therapy, a beach house, and a private jet with a pilot to get through this difficult time.

In the past few years, this country has accelerated itself into extreme depths of shite. You can’t publicly call a woman ‘sweetheart’...hell, you can’t even assume someone with tits identifies as a woman. It’s amazing.
The author seems like a real POS. Even after this incident, he still tries to throw out his self-righteous garbage.

If going in for a kiss and getting shot down is assault then we are all guilty.
I’m sorry, but making a move is how the human race continues on. If we stand around with our thumbs up our asses waiting for this “affirmative consent” bullshite then we’d never make any babies.

Not giving a shite. Not apologizing. Not perpetuating this weak arse pansy man bullshite.
Godammit, be a man. No matter what the mainstream talking heads may spout, a woman still wants a man to grab her by the waist, pull her close, and kiss her hard. Not ask for fricking permission.
