I'm thankful I'm off as well. Can only imagine the shitshow that ERs all over the nation will be tonight. Granted I don't work in the ER, but don't want to work on my floor on a night we will get slammed with admits from the ER.
I bet labor and deliveries everywhere will be hopping as well. Our hospital plays a lullaby over the loudspeaker every time a baby is born...that thing is gonna be going off a lot tonight

If it makes you feel better last time they floated me to the NICU I was trying to weigh a 2 kg baby in the isolette they were in(you know the ones that have the scale built into it). Baby had diaper off and proceeded to projectile poop....it shot out of her butt and splashed allll over the plexiglass wall of the isolette(in the creases of those portholes). I spent like 20 minutes wiping baby poop off the isolette.

We had a kid end up here in the NI who's mom had a birth plan that consisted of not doing anything including not giving vitamin K.
Attending talked to her and proceeded to act out vomiting up blood and dying.
She agreed to the vit K.
I hate granolas.

I actually work in a psychiatric ER, as in a locked unit that's part of the ER where we hold whatever psychs and substance abusers come in. Best of both worlds

At least yall have a locked area for that. Our peds ER doesn't but they hold all the peds psych holds/suicide attempts there vs admitting to us cause the kid will get a psych bed quicker if they sit in the ER vs on our floor. They have had kids sit 10 days in the ER waiting for an inpt psych bed.

Thankfully she came up towards the end of my shift. I'm barely getting the baby on the scale to weigh baby and do vitals and she starts immediately asking for those special pillows to prevent the baby from rolling from her back to her stomach and Dr Brown bottles/nipples. WTF, this is a hospital that mostly treats inner city population, not Babies R US you moron.

It's a damn shame. Mental health does not get the focus it should get. We've actually discharged many peds suicide attempts from the floor cause they spent forever waiting for a bed and the docs figured they weren't gonna get in a psych bed anytime soon(kid doesn't have insurance/Medicaid) so might as well send them home.

An attending in Shreveport had a kid come in with epiglottitis, something most of us have never seen because of vaccines. The mom was freaking out and asked him if it was her fault.
Apparently the guy had had a long night in the ER and was fed up, but he turned to her and said, "yes, you did this".
The best thing for those granolas is to be direct and brutally honest with them.
