Be safe and do a steady stream, NOT a trickle. It wouldn't hurt to do it in 2 spots in the house.

Yea, run that shite. My stuff outside was dripping and if froze. First time that's ever happened at this house. Had to get a pot of hot water and a rag and spend a half hour thawing everything.

Nah, but it helps. Wind isn't your friend with pipes. It will help cool the pipes faster, but they obviously won't get any colder than the actual temperature outside.

The cabin I go to in Vermont just drips the cold water, and that place deals with 0 degrees regularly. If you have the heat on in your house, I really think this seems silly down here. If anything, I could maybe see dripping the outside bibs.

I know quite a few people who had busted pipes in LA with the freeze two weeks ago. Raised, old homes are a problem.

Shite, I'd never heard of dripping your water until I read this website. Are the pipes made differently in the Deep South? Serious question because I don't know anything about plumbing.
I don't know anyone in Chicago who does that, and the vast majority of the next two months will be below freezing and a good chunk of that will be below 20 degrees.

Yep. Houses up north are designed for it. They have almost no exposed piping, if they have any at all.

Oh, it can get pretty damn hot here in the summer, and I don't think it makes national news.
Being in the middle of the continent and on the plains can make for some pretty extreme weather. It's cold as frick during the winter and hot as frick during the summer, and spring lasts about two weeks. Fall is pretty nice and long, though, for whatever reason.

frick off. A few years ago I had to hear about places like Chicago, New York and Minnesota freaking the frick out during a heat wave. Old people were dying, power was out and no one had a/c’s.

The pipes are often exposed and lack insulation. It's the nature of the building code in the south.

We have a cabin and have lived in the north. We have basements that are heated and the water pipes are in the basement- underground pipes are 6 foot under.
Down south pipes are in the attic- if you have an older home with galv pipe or copper or pvc - you are at risk
New homes with Pex tubing you are in better shape
if in doubt drip the water. moving water is difficult to freeze
