Never forget the guy in Canada that tried to sue the government to get an ASSMAN plate because his last name was, in fact, Assman.

I know someone that got a license plate HOOKER in Ohio back in the day because of this.

I used to live in Illinois and I cant believe the amount of personalized plates they have up there, its truly amazing.

I was told by someone that lived there that Illinois personalized plates were either really cheap or free as long as they included at least one number.

If you included the number at the end it was considered personalized and was something like $37 a year. If you didn't include the number it was considered vanity and I think about 3x that.
So I had UWBDGR with a number at the end.

I lived in the NW Chicago burbs for three years and I wondered the same. Lots of LASTNAME1 plates the closer you get to Chicago proper. A question I have to this day about Illinois vehicles is about the lack of dealership branding on the cars. You never see where the car was purchased from like how it is down here.

Currently personalized is $158, vanity is $164. There’s also no personal property tax or based off vehicle year, make, and model like some states. Everyone I knew growing up had personalized or vanity. I currently live in Florida and have lived in other states where I never personalized it, it is very much an Illinois thing.

Eff that state.
I was going to get a personalized plate down here but the personalized plates are a completely different design than the usual one, so I gave it back because we have top 3 plates in the country

They stay on top of this list pretty aggressively. A few years ago SFMF (semper fi mother fricker) was pretty popular and I tried ordering it for my dads motorcycle plate and it got rejected.
