Regarding college degree choices, is going into IT/Computer Science smart?

Seems like IT jobs are constantly looking to hire people. I have a feeling that after I get my diploma Friday, I'm going to regret the last 4 years of my life for not going into IT
Shitty part about it, I actually enjoy learning things about computers. It's not something I wouldn't have enjoyed. Obviously it would have been harder than my current degree..but I just have tons of regret.

You can still gain certifications.

Uh... I couldn't imagine working with computers for the rest of my life. I would probably be good at it, but there is zero interest in that whatsoever.
So pursuing a degree that you will hate the next 30 years of your life for having sounds like a pretty shitty plan.

Your thread title implies that there is only one valuable degree path out there. I hope this isn't a serious question.

+1
While many IT shops want people with IT-related degrees, they are usually willing to take people with other degrees if they've shown enough initiative and aptitude to learn on their own to at least get an interview.

Isn't your degree in some kind of engineering?

College is an intersection with 3 paths: a hard science, selling shite to people or not making any money. Choose wisely.

What is your current degree? There are "IT" jobs in almost every field, and in most cases experience in that particular field, as well as a tech background are desired.

Why on earth would you get a degree in IT? Just do it.

Not terribly far off. I guess an attorney would slide into "selling shite to people." Overall that is an apt summary.

But according to the OT, college isn't for pursuing your interests. It is for job training only for jobs that are in demand.

Usually, the job version of your favorite hobby is less glamorous than what you might even consider a realistic expectation. And the more glamorous jobs in that field don't require degrees, just a really high level of intelligence and creativity.

IT sucks. Computer Science or Software Engineering is where you get all the pussy.

That's your 4 year degree? You will probably regret that, I agree.

This may soon go by the wayside.
After speaking with a senior Networking Engineer he said that Software Defined Networking and Infrastructure means more employers are looking for candidates with a degree in CS as opposed to bringing in a guy who may have 1-2 certs.
I may pursue my CS soon

Have you seen what finance grads can make coming out of school?
yes..I took Management, Accounting, and Finance classes. I was not a fan of Finance, tbh. But I can see how others would enjoy the shite out of it
