BR is sending out a ton of red light camera tickets. I thought they were ruled illegal in the court system. Does everyone pay them? Asking for a friend.

I draw a dick on their ticket and mail it back using their prepaid envelope so they have to pay postage twice.

ETA: why? Because frick them. That's why.

EATA: I literally giggle like a child every single time I think about some poor bastard opening the envelope amd getting his 432nd hand drawn dick of the day.

"Legal" or constitutional?

You should have the right to cross-examine whoever is accusing you of improper driving. Not a camera...

Send a dick pick back to them. That’s all they really want.

I am familiar with the ones around the New Orleans area. It is easiest just to pay it. If you contest it make sure you have a good defense because if you lose, the court costs increase by quite a bit.

As far as their being declared illegal, many courts around the country have declared them legal, but not unanimously. The burden on the government is reduced by the argument that the penalty is a civil fine and is not criminal in nature. That is how they get around the argument that the prosecution would be unconstitutional in a criminal (regular traffic) court.

The good news is that it does not go on your driving or insurance record.

The BR traffic camera ordinance has no enforcement clause. No boots, cant go on credit, nothing. It is literally just a donation if you choose to pay. I've gotten half a dozen that I have never paid. They still send me threats from the first one I got 4-5 years ago.

Mrs got a ticket in the mail, right when we got back from our honeymoon.

Never paid it....Never went on her credit.

And this was 8 years ago.

Just take your plate off and buy a paper tag from the corner store on Elysian Fields.

Credit really isn't the issue. It's whether you park on streets they hunt on for cars to boot. At that point, one learns how legal they are when faced with a stack of past tickets, late fees, and boot removal.

I got one in Baton Rouge a year or so ago. Never paid it.

I got another one 2 months ago from New Orleans on Canal St. and won't be paying that either. I park in an employer provided private lot so their vans that hunt for cars to boot can eat a dick.

Ohio had them up until about 10 years ago and was found unconstitutional so we did away with them.

I just got one in mail. Making a right turn on red, apparently didn’t come to a complete stop. I have no plans to pay it. So, I hope everyone is right that they are unenforceable.

Ignore it. They can't and won't do anything. When they have an attorney's office start to send letter to collect, ignore that too. They will eventually quit.

I’ve been ignoring it, but the idea of drawing a dick and sending it to them is very enticing.
