Not sure I want to buy yet. Combo of current rates and not having any idea of the layout.
Figured I would rent for a year and figure the place out. Just started looking at apartments…

quote:I hate going out west in the winter - Wyoming has practically given up on 80 and shuts it down rather than trying to keep it clean in the winters because of the costs, 70 through Denver is a total nightmare with chains, and 40 puts me almost a whole day out of route unless I'm going to the southern plains or southeast. There's nowhere to park, and as above poster said - wrecks. On Sundays you can count on them to be pretty frequent on the eastbound side and sit in a traffic jam from Georgetown all the way into Golden.
It can become a 100% parking lot for hours.
I'm getting to the point in the career that I drop south to 40 or cut up to 90 if its open and just endure the bitching and moaning from my bosses when they find out.

Denver proper is an absolute shithole. I lived in Five Points for 10 months and couldn't stand the filth and homelessness. Also a surprising amount of gun violence. Also people are incredibly political within city limits.
Suburbs seem better. Just avoid the heart of the city.

We moved almost 2 years ago. Traffic is pretty bad but I expected that. If job location is the most important thing, and you mentioned Aurora, I’d look at that south zip around Parker for suburb type area. We settled in between Denver and Boulder around Superior/Louisville and enjoy it. Just depends on how frustrated you get with traffic. I travel mostly so it’s not a big deal.
-Southern newer zip area Aurora
-Parker
-Castle Rock
-Highlands Ramch
-Littleton
-Golden

What are bad areas of Denver like? Growing up in BR, when I hear a bad area, I assume it looks like NBR and full of that kind of crime, but I never really imagined a place like Denver, CO having comparable crime.

All of this is spot on

Most people in Denver just live on the sidewalk.

That was my reaction. Like here, you know when you're in the ghetto. Like no doubt know.

Stapleton/Northfield would be pretty good for where you are working if you want to be closer to Denver. Newer-ish and good schools. We looked at that area but ended up in Littleton to be closer to the mountains. Parker or Centennial is close and good if you want more suburbs.

Can't beat SunnySide/Highlands for my money. 10 minutes to downtown, 15 minutes to Golden. Good food and drink. Expensive place though. Unless you're in 900k+ range for buying a house, prepare to rent.

South of Watkins if you want acreage but there isn't much out there as far as amenities.
South East Aurora if you want nice but typical small lot neighborhoods with lots of shopping, restaurants, and near Aurora reservoir. Further south is Parker which is also nice and you can find larger lots.
I would stay away from Green Valley Ranch area, it's not terrible but you will get a lot of airline noise.
ETA if you want something slightly less suburban, the DTC area is nice. Yosemite/Belleview ish area.

It's expensive, moved out of there a little over a year ago.

Colfax, but it's petty homeless crime more than violent crime.
I had more shite stolen in Denver than I did in NOLA East. The cops there could not give two shits about the homeless, and will actively mess with taxpayers before homeless.

Check out cherry creek area. That’s where I live in Denver currently.
Wouldn’t be a bad drive over to 225/colfax

I go to Denver a few times a year. Our training center is in Aurora. The area where it is located has definitely went down over the last few years, but there are still some pretty nice areas in and around Aurora. There are some nice parks in the area.
