Went on Princess in 2013. Not bad. Whatever port offers the Misty Fjords seaplane excursion, do it

Princess had some solid excursions. Went with my family and it felt like a geriatric cruise

My sister and I, early 20s, were by far the youngest on the boat, with the exception of tho girls (one Asian one blonde) who just walked around all dolled up 24/7. We think they may have been escorts.

Don't do it if you're bringing kids, basically. I'm sure you can do the same excursions with most cruise lines. The crowd was just wayyyyyy too old for our tastes, and the social scene on board was kind of dead, even for me (an introvert).

I went in 6th grade on a Princess ship. My parents had my brother and I in child care during the at sea days. I remember having a great time with the other kids.

I had a great time on a cruise when I was in 2nd grade. I think kids just really enjoy cruises in general because so much is catered to them. Maybe a more appropriate critique of Princess would be to say don't bring teenagers and college aged kids. But that was just our one experience.

I'll mark that one off the list.

I've seen plenty of cabins for rent but they are all at OT baller prices. You have any company names off the top of your head?

I cruised Norwegian to Alaska and it was fine. At the very minimum get a balcony. An Alaskan cruise is a little different than a Mexican or Caribbean cruise as you don't exit the ship to view the national parks, so it's really nice to have a view from your own balcony.

Also if you do Norwegian pay the extra $100 or so to get unlimited upgraded meals.

I've also sailed princess which is probably a cut above Norwegian.

Alaska is amazing and I recommend 100% if you enjoy nature.

Not really. There's some cabins in Denali which are pretty awesome but that's not going to put you near civilization.

Here is a couple of links.

Another thing to consider, the State of Ak and the National Forest Service have cabins you can rent for $35-$60 bucks. Some are difficult to get to and they're quite rustic but there are a couple on the road system here in Juneau, and think there are some on the Kenai as well.

We have taken two Holland America cruises to Alaska out of Vancouver and enjoyed them very much. The first time we took the Alaskan Railroad trip to the Denali Park following the cruise. The second time we spent a week in Victoria and Vancouver before the cruise. Highly recommended.

In my experience most of the Alaskan cruises are for old fat people. Much better vacation to fly in, rent a car and do what you want.

Unless you're old and fat, then by all means..

do you realize that Alaska is a. one third the size of the continental US b. some towns/cities are only accessible via boat or plane and c. you can't drive a car into the middle of glacier bay to watch the calving

Cruising is ideal for Alaska, sure there may be old and fat people, but you don't get the trashy people like you see on Mexican or caribbean cruises.

We did the trip in 2000. 3 day cruise from Vancouver and departed from a Alaska port (either Skagway or Sitka) and took a 9 day (Est) trip through Canada and Ak. Travel by bus, train and Vessell- great trip
