recently bought a GE top load set. They are really nice. Caught them on sale at Home Depot. We are happy so far.

To each their own, but I will never own front load again. I just bought an LG set of top load and have been very happy.

Good rule of thumb seems to be, don’t buy major household appliances from TV makers.

Exactly. My mom, dad, sister, and a few good friends went with the fancy French Door, ice and water in the door, Samsung or LG refrigerators, and every last one of them have to buy bags of ice to keep in the freezer drawer now. The water spout on my Mom's doesn't work anymore either. A few of them had LG front load washer and dryer, and just this past weekend my Mom's washer wasn't doing the spin cycle right. Kept cutting off before it could get to full spin. I went with Maytag top load washer and a Maytag fridge instead.

We had a GE front load washer, and had to replace the door gasket. The absolute cheapest I could find the OEM part was around $150. I can buy a tire cheaper than that. It is just a big piece of molded rubber, and I had to dismantle the entire washer just to get to it. When the dryer started giving me issues I sold the set and bought new Maytags.

11 years is pretty standard for new machines.
New appliances not named Speed Queen or Capital suck.

tell her to check the filter behind the door in the front.

I give the Koreans credit at least they put an access for the customer to clean their drains with a dedicated drain hose too. Most American brands up to recently you had to tear down the entire machine to acess the coin catch. Frigidaires by far being the worst offender.

We won't either, but you'd have to ask my wife and daughter why. They do 95% of the laundry in our house.

Maytag = Whirlpool they are the exact same units. just different surfaces. Modern Maytag is not the Maytag of back in the day.
The VMW (vertical modular washer) machines from Whirpool have been in my opinion disasters. But they are so cheap they are still likely the best machine to get because the other cheapie the GE is by far a worse disaster.

Honestly though I'm kinda glad all the new machines suck. Business has really taken off the last few years as these pricey to fix machines start to fail.

Front load washers are hot garbage.

Bought a Speed Queen dryer a few months ago. Best appliance I've ever bought. Somewhat patiently waiting for the washer to die so I can go buy the match

You know the difference between your Mom and washin' machine? When I dump a load in the washin' machine it doesn't follow me around for three weeks.

My wife is 5’4”, front loaders make it more convenient for when I do all the damn laundry in the house.

My wife's 5'1", she uses a step stool with the Maytag top load set we've had for 15+ yrs. She eyes those Samsung front load units every time she goes to HD with me.
I have a feeling I'll buy another top load Maytag set when the time comes.

It seems like all appliances that I buy now are plastic trash, and expensive. A regular old top loader washer is $500-700.

I'll never purchase another LG product as long as I live. When we bought this house we had to replace a bunch of appliances and I did zero research and just bought a number of stainless LG stuff at Bust Buy. All of them have been junk.

OUr LG top load washer has been pretty solid for the 8 or 9 years we've had it.

The LG dryer is kinda crappy though, but we only paid ~$300 for it at the scratch & dent place.

Buy the cheapest Roper manual (no programming chip) top load and throw it away when it breaks. Do you really wash "delicates" that much!!

Our LG fridge ice maker has been broken more than it has worked. Every door shelf has cracked, the gasket around the doors has had to be replaced.

The tub on our front load washer started sagging where it was eating into the door gasket and started leaking all over the floor. It was going to cost more to repair than a new one.

The only thing that hasn't been a pain is the dryer.

I and mother in law have had great experience with LG.

Everyone is going to recommend speed queen and they are nice, but they are expensive as frick too.

I pimpSpeed Queen left and right, but I have had the same LG set that I got for free broken in 2013. They are 2010 models. I just changed the parts that failed and changed the pulley in the dryer to the American made sealed bearing replacement and haven't had any issues at all. (Though I did have to change the control board $140, and pump $20 in the washer, and the belt and pulley in the dryer when I got them)

Though I will say the 1980's Lady Kenmore units I had before were better. Just didn't fit the redesign of the laundry room.

The ONLY reason I don't push LG is that them and Samsung keep making huge yearly changes and it's hard to say what specific model of theirs is good or bad.

LG fridges and Kenmore fridges made by LG are horrible though. The compressor fail rate is over 30% after 5 years.

Ropers uses the integrated VMW control now, only their dryers are anolog.
