What’s good? What’s worth the money? What’s a waste of money?

I haven’t bought fireworks in decades, help keep me from getting taken advantage of at the fireworks stand this year.

Artillery shells are good if you get the good ones. Good fireworks are not cheap

Best bang is probably big fountains

I get 2 dozen assorted artillary shells for about $100. Set them off on the end of our pier. Everyone seems to enjoy it.

OK, been along time since I’ve bought fireworks like I said. So you buy the tube at the fireworks stand and they sell the individual mortars? Sorry if that’s a stupid question.

Get the best artillery shells that you can afford. They have a great wow factor as well as the benefit of spreading out the fun because it takes time to reload. Kids also like the fear factor of running away when you light the wick. But seriously, have friends and family stand a safe distance away from the firing area. I had a shell explode inches out of the tube and it nearly caused a hearing loss for those around.

When I was a kid Roman candles were quality, I think last time I bought some about 10 years ago they were crap, are they still crap?

I get a box of 2 dozen. 4 or 5 tubes come in the box. Big fun for a hundred bucks.

We shoot them at the lake so they look that much better.

They don’t go as high as commercial fireworks but the good ones are impressive. 75-100 feet I’d say. Really impressive display.

its all super expensive and a total waste of money

let some other idiot waste his money and then you want him set it on fire

its like $10+ for every pop you hear

if you are thinking of buying about the same amount and type of stuff as you did when you were a kid then expect to be spending north of $200

There is usually 40-50 people watching and it takes 30-40 minutes to shoot them all. All for $100 isn’t bad. That’s like $4 a pop.

Related question: I’m in Texas for the next couple of hours. Heading back home to BR. Any difference between Texas and LA fireworks? I seem to recall some state (maybe Alabama?) that had different firework laws when I was a kid. Of course, that was damn near 40 years ago, so I’m pretty sure things have changed.

I wouldn’t know I haven’t bought fireworks in a long long time. But make sure there’s no law against buying them in one state and then driving across the border. There are some strict laws against bringing fireworks in the city limits and into certain counties. Cops will sit and watch you buy fireworks and then follow you to see if you cross the county or city lines...
