You get no architectural judgement from me. It's not my style, but it's not my house, so IDGAF. I live in a basic brick shoe box in the city, so I can't cast any stones. But I have a almost an acre, a creek, 8 minute commute, and close to all the ethnic food I want, so I've got that going for me. Different strokes for different folks. I couldn't do the burbs. I'm either in the city or way outside the city on some land.
Take that honesty somewhere else, this is the OT. I’m literally one street over from Hwy 100 which is 20 minutes into the city, but my house backs up to the Natchez Trace. Best of both worlds.

I'll never get living in the country but I'm not much of a baw.

Reality is that most suburbs aren't the Woodlands or Franklin, but that's not really discussed on here.
I don't want to live in the burbs at all, but some are much better than others. While I prefer the city, this debate is especially useless in Southern/Texas cities when comparing the city to nice and relatively sophisticated suburbs. Most of those burbs aren't overleveraged junk and crappy chains, and most of the urban neighborhoods aren't concrete jungles with homeless people pooping in your yard.

If you're ever over this way, try out a newer place called Surati Street Food. It's next to Habitat restore. So good and so different.

Saw that on Nextdoor. Terrible. If people don’t want to live anymore there are more private ways to go about it.

That’s fair. My folks sold their big property and downsized to Parker Place in Prairieville. There are about 10 communities in the works that will look exactly like it within a one mile radius. It’s La so it’s flat squares of dirt. Outside the developed areas it’s trailer park central.
That said, being in a 5th floor walk up 400sq ft flat in a NYC, NJ, etc... would feel like prison. For that reason, I’d rather ride out the plague in the burbs.

What are your favorite, low-key, or off the beaten path restaurants in and around Nashville?
I haven't been to Surati. Sadly, the only Nolensville restaurants I know of are Istanbul, House of Kabob (around the corner), Subculture, and Los Arcos.

In fairness, "freedom" in Alaska has a different significance than "freedom" in rural Elmore County, Alabama

La Haci (if you can handle 30x40 photos of Obama's visit on the walls)

Kebab
Taj

calypso (still love their chicken & black beans)
baja (fish tacos are the tits)
does monell's qualify as ethnic?

There are a few of those mixed in with the 100s of 20-30 year old smokes running the trails here. It's honestly a little absurd how many there are.
I usually take about 3-4 walks per day walking roughly 10 miles per day and the scenery is great.

I grew up in La, I get it. However you can still do a lot of things in the country, in any state that you can't do around highly sensitive neighbors.

Yeah, but the trade offs are more advantageous IMO.
Meaning in the rural south, there is often nothing charming/interesting/etc. around other than the outdoors. And in large parts of the south the outdoors may not be all that interesting (depending on interests).
So pro and conning rural/urban around here is different than in PNW or Alaska or New England, I think (and I'm sure you'd agree). I'd trade red dirt, dollar general and snakes for restaurants and breweries here. But that's locale-dependent.

see my post about having target practice in my backyard. if the drones are meant to intimidate me they're not working.
also someone called the police on my neighbor for burning brush and the sheriff showed up and just laughed and said 'you're in the country, you can burn anything you want.'
