I have a SSN, a tax ID for myself, a tax ID for my LLC, a driver's license, a US Passport with TSA Pre-Check, a birth certificate and am working on Global Entry. Why the frick do I need yet another ID just to travel within the states?
That's the sort of incrementalism the founders of this country created a weak central government to avoid. Just as how our SSN's were originally supposed to be used solely for Social Security, this Real ID will end up supplanting other ID's and thus make the federal government and all it's beautiful efficiency (sarcasm) the eventual sole arbiter of who you are and where you can go.

This is not true. I just two days ago I had to use my fricking birth certificate for something for work because I couldn’t use my drivers license since it wasn’t a “Real ID”. Pissed me off enough to decide to get a Real ID soon.

You know you were more than welcome to get it early ahead of the deadline, right? The average person goes years without riding an airplane so it really wasn't a big rush for most people to get it done early or before their current one expired. I took a plane for my honeymoon two years ago, but until that trip I hadn't flown since 2005.

It's not another ID. It's just added to your driver's license and is an extra step when renewing it.

I always use mine at TSA and only once has a dumbass agent not known what it was and not accept it (he actually would have but would have had to “look it up”)

I live In Virginia and I’m not getting a bullshite “real ID” until I need It to drive.
