Well I currently live in Charlotte, so I have a different perspective now.

A city, to me, is more than just its population... it's ease of access to amenities/conveniences/activities.

NOLA is a large city for LA, but not for the US

I lived on Cypress Lake, the commute wasn't bad. Suburbs aren't necessarily a bad thing. Kind of gives you some privacy from the city with ease of access.

I suppose it's all relative. I mean, NOLA has more people living in it then the capital of Australia, but ok.

New Orleans metro is 1.2 mil that's about on par with Memphis and Jacksonville. It's kind of unfair to only use New Orleans proper since affording the few good spots is outrageous.

There are 7 cities in Australia that have a larger population than New Orleans...

I wouldnt call New Orleans a large city. It's like upper middle class for southern cities.
