Not including Chicago, where I live now, and would put into the top two. Amazing city with world class cuisine, world class museums, mediocre (Bears) to awesome (Hawks) professional sports squads, a great dive bar and drinking scene, concerts and shows galore, freakin' beaches during the summer. Only downside is the lake effect winters. But summer here is freakin
I miss that city so GD much

Considering the immediate area, along with the city itself.
San Fran
Seattle
NYC
LA area
San Diego
Chicago
NOLA
Denver
Austin
Miami
Honorable mention Boston.
I think LA is great to visit but I'm including a lot of area in that one. Just have an affinity for Cali I guess...

I live in Los Angeles and feel that it's a great place to live as it offers a little of everything. I have no clue why anyone would want to vacation here though.
I'm having a hard time taking you seriously.
There's plenty to do in the Los Angeles metro area, the weather is phenomenal, there's mountains, lakes, camping, hiking, tons of bicycle trails, Hollywood, the beach, Koreatown, DISNEYLAND, Griffith Park, the Greek Theatre, kayaking, paddle boarding, Catalina Island, Runyon Canyon, Paramount and Universal Studios, Vince Beach, Santa Monica Pier, Malibu coast, and so on.
thats why i said its a great place to live; there is a little of everything and always something to do. But none of those attractions are good enough to merit a cross country vacation, and honestly some of the places you listed aren't even desirable for tourists(runyon, paramount studios, koreatown). If someone wants to visit the great outdoors, go to montana or alaska. You want beaches go to hawaii. Want to visit an amazing metropolitan area, New York City is by far the best.
Thats why a lot of people shite on LA, they come to visit it and are underwhelmed by what they see. Not to mention probably the 2 biggest tourist attractions, hollywood and venice beach, are infested with homeless and crazy people.
Edit- LA is basically a jack of all trades master of none. We offer a lot of things, but aren't best in class in any of them. Generally when people vacation they choose a place that offers the best of whatever it is they want to see(hawaii for beaches, new york for big city, etc)

Not gonna rank because I'm too lazy, but IMO Phoenix and Tampa Bay are highly underrated for both visiting and as a permanent residence.

I know I'm a huge sports nut, but having the Cubs emerging as the 2000's Red Sox makes Chicago even more fun. I'm not a Cubs fan, but wow - what an amazing gem of the city that will be shining so brightly for the next 10 years at least.
They will almost certainly be regulars in the playoffs and the entire city is going to be on fire in the summers now.
