the first thing I show him after proper form is how to abandon the lift, especially with the more dangerous lifts.
knowing how to safely bail on a lift is the most important thing to learn.

unless you're like 4'5" there is no reason to not have to be in the cage.

I meant while using squat rack. Not the cage.

I do it both ways I honestly don't pay attention to it. Now I I were doing partials or overload just walking the weight out then I would def stay inside within the rack and cage. Depending on the rack it's also better for rack pulls.
I do prefer the adjustable squat rack that Olympic weightlifters use.

You never know when something bad is gonna happen. The bars are a necessary safeguard, IMO.
I have them set on my rack such that I'd have to fall back or forward for them to catch.
If I intentionally bail backwards, it's maybe a nine inch drop.

That machine is for squats????
Crap, I've been using it to do curls. It really allows me to see my bicep as I lift that super heavy bar.

This or a monolift
Once you use a monolift to squat, its hard to go back to a cage

Momolifts are cool although there are some huge squats that have been discredited bc of it.
Of course if some is squatting 700 plus on it I could not care less if the lifter doesn't walk with the weight.

It really isn't that difficult to drop the weight.

Tell her it isn't difficult to drop the weight.
I like having a safety net so I can fail and not hurt myself, or the dumbshit doing lunges right behind me.

I squat arse to the grass. I take em out because I hit em with the bar. If I go heavy tho, I'll just have a buddy spot me.

If I'm going down as far as possible (resting my arse on my heels), I still can't hit the lowest setting on the cage. On the rack, I do have to back out, but I'm only doing like 135-185 if I'm going all the way down. I can control that. If I'm going to parallel, I'm not close on either rack and try to push myself to where I may need to bail out.
It's just funny to watch a guy walk up and first thing they do is pull those bars out and throw them on the ground. Then do an exercise that the bars would have never even affected.

For those who squat with their hands out wide, the safety bars can definitely get in the way
