Canadian man stuck with $19,000 cost of a new engiine after RAM voids his truck warranty. Owner says oil changes were done at a 3rd party shop.

Should be extremely easy to prove if he really did get the oil changed

Man that sucks. This is why I get all my work done at the dealership. Pay a premium for peace of mind I guess.
I liked my Ram, but flipped into a ford, I find the powertrain to be better.

I’m betting he didn’t actually get the oil changed.

Well if you buy the warranty then bring it to the dealership for your oil change.

Yeah, but you shouldn’t have to “pay a premium” for them to honor a warranty. It’s easy enough to document oil changes done at a shop for much less than a dealership charges.

"When I asked them why it was not covered under warranty, they mentioned at 50,000 kilometers the oil switch came on and I didn't get an oil change done right away," said Fosuo. Fosuo said when he had the oil changed at a third party oil shop, he was told the truck could travel 24,000 kilometres between oil changes. Fosuo said the truck did not come with a physical owner's manual.
I hate to say it, but if my truck is under warranty I’m not listening to a 3rd party on extending the life of an oil change. And I find the no owners manual part hard to believe as well.
ETA: that’s 15k miles. I don’t know any oil places recommending that.

He bought the truck brand new, it came with a warranty. Even if he had paid extra for an extended warranty, why would you have to go back to the dealership for oil changes?

Sucks to be a Candian. In the US the Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act would give him the ability to take Ram to court and prove that the oil changes by the 3rd party caused the failure. Given it's a Ram it was going to fail anyway.

Does anyone find this to be out of line ? I mean, i know inflation and all.. but i feel like pre-Panny, a new engine could be got for about 1/3 to 1/4 of that .

In the US, this is illegal. Owner can perform the maintenance himself or go third party. So long as its done.

It's Canadian, so it's going to be about 30% more than US. And he has the eco-diesel engine supplied by VM. Not the standard V8 Hemi.
I bet he with with Amsoil or something with those advertised extended oil change intervals.

Canuck bucks but ouch.
I guarantee they can tell each time the oil life monitor was reset on that truck. They know he didn't change the oil like he was supposed to. The owner even says he was "told" he could run it to 25k which is false.
Also, the engine seized? Was probably OUT of oil.

That's the price in Canadian Pesos.

Try doing that with john Deere

Honestly a HEMI probably would have kept going with that mileage. But he bought a very elaborate and highly questionable 3.0L V6 diesel built by an Italian company.
It's a design commissioned by Cadillac about 15-20 years ago for their European market, but rejected due to engineering concerns. Fiat updated it a few times since then to meet emissions for US and supplied it for RAM trucks.

When I had my F150, an oil change at the dealer cost me around $35-40, that was 8 quarts and a filter. They did coupons all the time for $34.99.

Deere has been losing market share because of their shady practices. They are front and center in all these right to repair lawsuits.
