That is a custom job (or fake) not a real 116595RBOW, they go in the $500k range and are damn hard to source.

The rainbows exploded in price when John Mayer got his. He is one of the few people that can move the watch world Overton window with a purchase. He did the same thing with the yellow gold Daytona with the Christmas dial. You could find them rather easily at (or under) list the day before his second Hodinkee Talking Watches episode aired, within a couple of days they had doubled in price.

The white gold ones in particular are stunning objects de art in person. I have never owned a gem set watch and likely never will even if they were nothing like the in your face Rainbow but I am actually glad they exist.

People sell 75k watches on Craigslist? That sounds like a horrible idea

Can your walmart timex virtue signal to your fellow fart sniffers?

No, I didn't think so. That Rolex can.

I’ve been considering picking up a 18348 (obviously not gems but loaded with diamonds) because I don’t have anything like that in my collection but figure prices are going to keep going down so am going to wait.

If you have lots of extra money these are basically good investments you have. Ugly or not it's rare and popular with certain people that have lots of money. Wear it one night for a fun occasion like New Year's or a Mardi Gras Ball then retire it pass it down or sell it later.
Its art on your wrist for the wealthy.

If those are real diamonds and real stones, it seems kinda cheap, no matter how gaudy/fugly, just from what little I know about Rolexes.

That thing is hideous.

I don’t care how much it cost or what brand it is, it’s just ugly.

That is the reason it is priced as it is, it dod not come from the factory that way.

Rolex is extremely picky about the precious gems they put in watches. The Rainbow's bezel has a set of color-matched natural sapphires which is the reason they were expensive at list price* and rare because the sets of stones are rare themselves. The color set has very little variance between watches, something only a gemologist likely with references could discern. Some of the other manufacturers like Hublot that have done rainbows of their own use synthetic gems.

* I don't remember the price on the original 2012 rainbows but the 2018 Everose (pink) gold version that the one in the OP looks like was just a tad under $100k list but now sales in the ~$500,000 range.
