You know, I think I just hate everything. Big business, big labor, big government.

Of the 15 or so unions, all but two have agreed in principal to new contracts, but the remaining unions of engineers and conductors counts for a large portion of workers. It sounds like the differences are largely from work rules/quality of life and not salaries.
The cooling off period ends Friday at 0001, the unions are then free to strike. Being an election year, I have a hard time seeing the government allow this to carry on more than a day or so, recent past labor actions have been resolved in a matter of days. I think democratic leadership will throw their weight around with the unions to try and get them to accept a deal and minimize disruption.
I believe CSX stopped taking Hazmat shipments yesterday because they have to keep moving and can't risk being stopped on a terminal during a strike. I believe NS or BNSF stop intaking any goods at all at some of its terminals Monday.

Just read the signalmen rejected their tentative agreement.

Why is that excellent? What was the counter proposal and what are they asking for?

This is very bad....our economy and our supply chain can not support not having the rail available.
All goods especially durable goods and groceries are about to become extremely scarce if this happens/last.

Agreed, hope they stand strong.

You know Damone. If I took the opposite opinion of yours on every topic, I have to say I’d feel right better than 80% of the time.

Cool. Nine times out of ten I will side with labor over corporations.

Machinist and signal men have both rejected their tentative agreements now.
Under the machinist Facebook page there is this, so they've signed an extension and won't be striking on the 16th.
"The Tentative Agreement has been rejected and the strike authorization vote was approved by IAM District 19 members. Out of respect for other unions in the ratification process, an extension has been agreed to until Sept. 29, 2022 at 12 p.m. ET. This extension will allow us to continue to negotiate changes with the NCCC in the hopes of achieving an agreement our membership would ratify."

Any railroad workers here that can shed some light on this?
Is it going down or is it gonna fizzle?
You are released to potentially strike tomorrow unless Congress steps in, correct?

Not a RR worker but all indications have been that the unions’ sticking point has been hours/leave far more than pay.
Congress forcing a 20% raise but not addressing other issues is a band aid and not a fix.

These unions have been pissed off since they outlawed the caboose. That caboose money was sweet. Just sit back there and pound beers and wave a lantern every now and then.

I gotta know how many points you lose from the 30 for each no-call no-show.

I'm willing to bet it's based on when you do it.
Like holidays, or days you requested off you didn't get, and then whether or not you're a repeat offender.

Only a certain list of hazmat shipments, but yes all but the CPRS issued that embargo on Monday.

CPRS (Canadian Pacific) isn't on the national agreement.
It's trains will be stacking up though when they can't be interchanged to the US carriers.
