It’s just not true. But keep on blaming me for your failure if that makes you happy.

To be fair, not just millennials got hit in 2008 and again in present day.
My grandparents lived through the Great Depression and not once did I hear them complain about how hard they had it.
What a sorry generation.

as a zillenial myself - I find the milllenials were ‘quietly quitting’ before Covid -maybe the financial ruin’ of 2008 caused it but those that I supervised pre-Covid weren’t giving their all and didn’t care
I think its the fact that productivity and earnings went through the roof since around 2000, but there's really been no material change to working conditions in that time. The work from home boom happened due to covid but many companies wanted to lower wages if you moved to a lower cost of living area. After not keeping wages up with COL for the last 30 years.
Why would you give extra effort when there's very, very little incentive?

Cool. Enjoy your well earned retirement.

At 50 you presumably had investments in 2008 that took a hit and again most recently. I was just giving some context in your defense.

Gee. I had some bad luck. Think I’ll quit.
Buddy, the millennial generation has been hammered so thoroughly that they are behind every generation that has existed since the creation of the USA at this point in their lives.
I posted that stat earlier.
They are the only generation which has obtained less wealth than the one before them.

It galls me because some of us started out way behind where the average millennial is, even factoring in the “setbacks” they blame on others.
Your argument would hold water if you started way behind, gained wealth, and then had it wiped out, then tried your best to gain wealth again, only to have it wiped out again.
The entire workforce is jaded as hell, and rightfully so.

I saw far less qualified people advance because of connections or networks never available to me. Think that’s fair?
No, you didn’t.
quote:As if being passed up for promotion is equatable to 2008 and the pandemic.
By millennial logic, I should have blamed the system and quit. That never crossed my mind.

No opportunity for advancement my arse.

That’s it. Times are tough at the ole Sawtooth resident.
I’m retiring at 55. Maybe you can toss some change my way when I’m picking up cans.

To be fair, not just millennials got hit in 2008 and again in present day.
This was the start of what is supposed to be a generation’s prime working years.

Those living through the Great Depression had it much worse. We have some of the fattest “poor” people in the world.

Despite that blessing, I still recognize how daunting the situation is for housing among other things, and I make significantly more than the average. You keep posting the “18% APR” thing and I would trade anything for the housing market you had in the 80s. If I, in medicine, am completely put off by the housing market, the majority of my generation is fricked.
Savings accounts paid us a decent interest rate then too. Made saving for a house much easier.

I’m quite happy with my job. I have been with the same company for 25 years.
Maybe not the “entire” workforce.

So what do you project yourself to have in savings in 5 years?
This is mindblowing to me.

Anecdotes don’t disprove the macro trends.

Sounds like you make poor financial decisions.
Shame.
