What I don't understand is all you cable cutters...do you only have one TV??

I have 7, so AppleTVs and Rokus all over the place don't make sense.

I doubt most people have 7 tv's. I have 3. Living room, master bedroom, and guest bedroom.

We have 2, basically only watch the one in the living room. Only watch the news at night in the bed, can pick that up with an antenna or do without.

7 TV's....holy cow

Will I still be able to watch shows from A&E, history, discovery, etc.?

All of those are available as roku channels. If you want them bundled nicely in one place, get a subscription to hulu plus. As far as movies go, there are several free channels like crackle or you can subscribe to either netflix or amazon prime. I like amazon prime because of the free two-day shipping but it also includes access to a huge library of movies.

You must jailbreak the Apple TV to be able to install XBMC on it which IMO makes the Apple TV worth while. There are a bunch of ways to watch live television including sports channels, etc. but I am not posting links. A good google search should put you in the right direction

I have XMBC on my desktop, it's pretty neat for downloading stuff. The live TV quality is meh, though.

Is it better on Apple TV?

Its still going to be the same quality on the Apple TV because its the stream that doesn't have good quality.

Something for cable cutters to look into is PLAYON. I think it cost around $30 a year or something like that. But people have made custom plugins that stream live tv, movies, and shows for free. You basically set it up on your PC and then on your phone, XBMC, tablet, ROKU, Apple Tv, etc.. connect to it and surf through the channels

I'm currently using PlayON. I have a Logitech Revue in each room and can watch and TV show or movie you could think of, using a nifty custom plugin someone made for it. Can't beat it

OP, I don't have internet at my home for the same reason (babies). We use our smart phones for surfing, and I think our DTV bill is $50/month. Not bad.

Thanks for the input. Does Jailbreaking the apple tv for xmbc hurt its functionality of the other apps?

You will not lose any functionality. You will have problems installing new updates but I think the only problem will be that it will unjailbreak your Apple TV

The problem for me is when you cut cable, you still need the Internet. In BTR Cox makes it almost as expensive for Internet only as one of their bundles. Any recs on Internet only in BTR?

Really?

I am not in BR, but it's a pretty significant difference...unless you get crazy high speed.

I think I can get 15MBps for like $35, I pay $108 for TV and internet.
