Buddy was at a track meet and used the term peelayed when someone stepped over the foul line. No one at the meet had heard that term. It’s what he remembers from growing up in Louisiana.

Is this a term anyone remembers? If so is it still used today?

Sounds like a sex thing…

“Yo, you score with that chick Amber from the bar last night?

Yea, man…I totally peelayed her.

I ran and coached track for years. Never heard of a foul line or the word peelayed. WTF?

There is however, a foul line in bowling.

I definitely recall the term. It came to mind when I read the thread title, before seeing it mentioned.

It’s not a track term.

It’s a Cajun slang term.

Peelayed was a term we used when someone got hit hard in football. Or just took a big hit in anything.

Never heard it related to track.

We used this term for field events. Stepping out of the circle for shotput or discuss was a peelay

Much like brake tag or making groceries, Louisiana has a wide variety of terms native only to them that nobody else has ever heard of. Chalk this up as another one.

Heard it used by Boots Garland more than a few times. And, rarely in a good way.

No, that’s probably why.

Okay, someone just shared with me that apparently “pelay” in Cajun French means to misstep.

If that true it would make sense as a Louisiana term for crossing over the foul line.
