It was $2400 total at Williamson when I had it done 4 years ago. Insurance would only pay ~$500 if I went to the clinic on their list (which wasn't Williamson). I chose to go with them most reputable clinic instead.

Was this for both eyes or per eye?

Asked optometrist during routine exam, he did some measurements and said I would be a good candidate.

Went to the Lasik surgery center that he recommended. Turned out great. I went from not being able to see anything more than 1 foot in front of my face to being almost 20/20.

Follow up questions. What was the experience like? I would love to have surgery, but I think I would get weirded out and want to start moving when sharp things and lasers start coming at my eyes, and that can't be good for continuing to see.

What was the whole experience like, from when you got to the clinic on the day of the surgery?

Had it done in 2000 in Baton Rouge. Optometrist thought I was candidate & recommended a Lasik surgeon.

Best money I ever spent. No issues since surgery.

I showed up, checked in, they gave me a valium, and I started filling out some paperwork. The V kicked in and I had my wife finish filling out the forms because I was just too mellow to care.

When I was good and chill, they took me back, sat me in the chair and leaned it back, put some numbing drops in my eyes, and let that sit. After I was numb, they put these clamps on my eye to hold the lids open, used this thing that's kinda like a cigar cutter to slice the top layer of the eye to create a flap. Then they flipped the flap back, told me to stare at the red dot, and the laser did it's thing. The gently put the flap back in place and squished the air bubbles out.

Repeat for the other eye.

They sat me up, brought me to a different chair and apparatus where they could check out their handiwork, and gave me the all clear. Lastly, they taped these plastic shields over my eyes to keep them closed and protect them from me accidentally brushing them.

The whole procedure lasted less than 15 minutes.

The wife drove me home, I took a nap. I woke up around 7 pm and listened to TV for a while, then back to sleep.

The next morning I took the shields off and I could see like a hawk. I drove myself to the eye center to get checked out. I couldn't believe how sharp my vision was. I was reading license plates and street signs from farther away than I ever had. I was prescribed some drops to speed up healing and prevent infection, and I went back a few times for check ups.

It took some getting used to waking up and not reaching for my glasses. Not having contacts get dry on me. I race mountain bikes and the hassle of dust under a contact screwed up more than one race for me. Not any more.

Like I said in my original post, best money I ever spent.

So they give you enough vitamin V so you just don't give a frick that they're about to take knives and lasers to your eyes while you're awake?

Pretty much.

It chills you out enough to where you're not nervous. Even if you are nervous, the laser is so smart that it tracks your eye movements and can adjust to your eye twitches faster than you can twitch.

Also, you said something about plastic shields. Are you completely blind for a while?

I paid $2700 if I remember correctly. It was about 10 years ago.
