How available was gasoline and propane in the immediate days and weeks after Laura? Just trying to gauge what the aftermath will be like trying to keep the generator humming. Were the gas stations able to refill enough to keep up with demand?

Biggest problem was lack of power to gas stations. The electrical grid was a mess. Beaumont & Vidor an hour to the west had plenty gas and essentials.

Jennings was one of the closest places for like a week. And there were literal fistfights at the pump

Crowley had gas.

Corner station down here had gas the next day in Westlake. They had an 18 wheeler in the parking lot offloading gas for people into gas cans until they could get a generator in.

A lot of gas stations have generators here now.

We never lost water or sewer.
Had gas the next day. Cash only. 10 gallon limit.

Plenty of gas inside of 5 days

There were at least 4 gas stations open 2 days after landfall between N Lake Charles, Moss Bluff, and Westlake. Some had most were cash only for a few days, but then after that, most had credit card by cell or satellite service. Rouses in Moss Bluff was open the day after landfall accepting credit cards.

Within a week, you could almost get anything you needed locally. Home Depot and Lowe's were accepting online orders shipped to store.

Never had a problem getting gas or food after Laura. Gas stations and grocery store opened pretty quickly, like within days to a week. Fast food chains opened pretty quick too.

Edited to add this was Sulphur area.

Gas was available in South LC 2 days after. Cash only and receipts wouldn't print. I took pictures of gas pump screen and insurance accepted for reimbursement (generator).

Fast food chains took a few weeks to open. They had all those carnival food trucks around town gouging people for carnie food.

We had gas in my side of town in about 5 days or so. They were able to keep up with demand ok, it wasn’t horrible. We went out every day or so to get ice and top off our gas.
But upon reentry we stopped in Lafayette to top off the tank. We weren’t dealing with the crazy closer to town.
It took grocery stores about that same time. Once they got generators going they started opening up, even if just for limited items.

I have enough fuel to run the generator 7 days, 24/7. I’m hoping things will be open up by then.

Jennings was the last bastion of hope before you headed west. Welsh P66 got fuel a day or two after and was a hidden gem since it’s off of 90 instead of I10. Fast food lines in Jennings were ridiculously long. If you’ve evacuated, stock up on water, tuna packs, canned chicken breast, or anything to have a quick meal while in the tarping/cleanup mode.

Yea sounds like that dude came back 3 weeks late lol

Look I was without power for 6 weeks and I live in the city

We had to go to reladyne to get gas. I was with a local elected official who had to help and he was sitting up gas deliveries to stations that had power

Lc is different though because p66 will sell right here in town. They had tons stored.

But yea not the easiest to get power for 3-4 days.

But unless you are in houma/mc/thib area prolly won't be like that.

I would expect 10-14 days without power in nola area if it keeps going east and prolly 4-5 days of struggling to get gas.

Now I'm assuming the main transmission lines don't get destroyed like they did in Laura. Kf that happens, you are in the same boat as LC was.

Last year I figured I can run 24 hours on 7 gallons of gas.

35 gallons gets me 5 days. We had everything up We needed in 5 days besides electricity obv

We had grocery store back up here the Tuesday after the storm. Market basket installed a huge generator a few years ago. They were MVPs here.

I keep thinking to the future- what are people going to do if they all have electric cars like their big government overlords want?? Thousands of cars with no electricity to charge their battery packs!! A hurricane threat is exactly why I have zero desire to own an electric vehicle!!

Hopefully down the road our houses will run on fuel cells of some sort

Sam's had gas within a few days, and they froze the price for at least a week or two
