G Vice, MCE. As a parent, I'm devastated for this family. As a mom, I'm completely heartbroken for this child's mother.

10. For those medical people answering questions yesterday, my daughter told me today that "she was told" so IDK how true it is, but the child was brought to the doctor and was told that he had mild brain swelling and was sent home. To her (any my) knowledge no accident had happened prior to the initial doctor visit. Ended up in the ER last weekend, on a vent on Monday and died today.

He has a brother who is in high school; my daughter is so sad for him that he didn't get to tell his brother good bye (he is stuck at home with the flu) or really anything and that he'll now be an only child.

I just totally cannot fathom this ever happening.

So the kid saw a doctor who told the parents he had cerebral edema and then he sent the kid home? Sounds to me like that doctor is responsible for the kid’s death.

That's the "word on the street" but from a reliable source.

My brain won't let go of the fact that parents aren't supposed to say good bye to their kids ... they're not supposed to never see them again ... it's not meant to be this way. I can't understand how you keep going -- I mean, I know you do -- I know you have to -- but it's not the natural order of things.

I'm sure his funeral mass will be filled with family and friends and classmates. I hope that it's a wonderful celebration of his short, sweet life.

this is utterly depressing and I am only reading about it......cannot imagine the family actually experiencing it and what he'll they are in right now.

It is a big deal. That's why I said it makes no sense.

Unless the parent misunderstood what the doctor was telling her. Did the doctor actually tell the parent "brain swelling"?

I would imagine if any child was suspected to have cerebral edema they would be admitted to a hospital(and likely an ICU at that) to be closely monitored.
