Once the kids were all past high school/college age (ie lived alone or with SO) I didn't care if they shared a guest room in my home.

I have two half siblings who are 10 and 11 years older than I. They were toddlers when my mom married my dad. He pretty much raised them.

My dad was very strict about things like that. Even when my brother and sister were in their early twenties, he wouldn't even allow them to go in their room, alone, with someone they were dating. If I had to guess, if he were alive and one of his kids were staying the night at his house, if they would have brought someone over, they were dating, he wouldn't allow them to sleep in the same room.. No matter how old they were. He was really strict about certain things and he made it know "These are my rules, in my house. If you don't want to respect them then leave".

respect

that's what it's about, simple respect, if you can't deal with temporary rules out of respect for your parents for such a short time then maybe take a look in the mirror, I don't drink around my mother because her dad was a raging alky and she despises the demon water, she knows I drink, I just abstain around her out of respect

Scruffy's GF's parents are like that. They know we share the same bed, but when they visited, Scruffy had to go to the upstairs bedroom, they got the master bedroom, and she slept in the guest bedroom

When My SO's parents came to visit, her mom insinuated that I'd be sleeping on the couch that night. After ignoring her several times I finally said I'd be happy to get them a hotel room if it bothered her that much (we have been together for 5 years, 2 years living together out of state).

SO's dad told me the next day I handled it a lot better than he would have.

When my future wife walked out the bedroom one Sunday morning my dad said "Thank lord you brought a woman home, I was starting to worry about you."

If they are coming to visit you...and they already know you live together...then they just have to deal with it imo.

Glad you stood your ground on that one.

Respect as an adult is a two way street. Their house, their rules. Your house, your rules. End of story.

They pulled the old "My house, my rules" on you. Live with it even though it is kind of ludicrous since you two do live together.

If my stepson came to stay with his girlfriend, I'd not make them sleep in different rooms since he's an adult and age 32 now. Especially since his mother and I lived together for 6 years before we got married and he was 12 and his sister was 6 at the time. No sense being a damn hypocrite.

You're 37. Your parents know you're banging, but hope that you have the restraint to not do it in their house.

When he protested, they told him they could get a hotel room if they needed a bed to share.

If it had been me I would have gotten that room.

The whole "separate beds" thing may be appropriate if they're still dependent for support. But if you're on your own two feet as a working adult you can have your SO, just please keep the sex noises down while the old folks are trying to sleep.
