This capacitor reads 48 on my meter. Does that mean the capacitor is good? It's on a Dometic ac on the roof of my camper. The compressor isn't staying on. It'll buzz for a few seconds and the lights will dim and then it cuts off. The fan works fine, just no cold air. Was working fine one day then not the next.

This is the meter I'm using

This is the other capacitor

It reads 44.2 at the HERM terminal and 9.8 at the fan terminal

You gotta get the camper up to 88 mph before it will work.

Duh.

Here’s the capacitor:

The capacitors are made in Mexico. You need a metric meter.

The second one is less than $13, delivered, from Amazon. I am sure you can replace both for less than $40.

Or you can check and see what the Ohm resistance is supposed to be and meter it for that.

I tested it on the ohm setting and it doesn't read anything. My meter beeps when you touch the leads together on the ohm setting. When i touch the leads on the capacitors I get nothing. But when I test in the capacitance setting they read in range or close to it. I don't know shite about capacitors, only what setting to put my meter on, that's why I'm here with you clowns. Lol

You might have better luck on the outdoor board.......

As log as your meter is hooked up right it appears your capacitors are working. They are within spec according to your pictures.

If they are not misshapen or burnt corroded then I would look elsewhere for your issue.

Is there anything free to your compressor that you can spin?? Make sure it's not locked up.

Thermostat control board (in the overhead unit) is the most common issue with those. Change the thermostat too for about $20 more.

Capacitors seem to test fine.

I agree as I have had to replace both of mine, one of them twice. It’s a cheap part installed in a vulnerable place.

Could be many things but my money says if your compressor is actually starting (is it?) and then stops running, then the run capacitor is probably bad or failing. Regardless of the reading of the capacitor it can still be bad. Replace the run cap first.

Yes, when i switch from fan to cool, I can hear the "buzz" of the compressor coming on and the lights really, really dim. Didn't use to dim like that before. All of that happens in about 3 seconds time. I think I'm just going to order a set of new capacitors and go from there. I have a 2nd unit in the bedroom that has the same thermostat. After I replace the capacitors, if it still doesn't work, I guess I'll swap wall thermostats to eliminate that. If that doesn't work, I'll replace the board someone mentioned. And of course, if all else fails I'll get another ac. If I do end up needing to replace it I think I'm going with Coleman instead of Dometic. I'm reading a lot of people do away with the Dometic units in favor of the Coleman.

The first capacitor is a start capacitor and is connected to a small switch with three terminals on it (potential relay). That is what you need to replace.

Check your battery make sure its fully charged...some if those air conditioners need the 12volt system to run...even if its plug in...

So don't order any capacitors? Trace the wires back to a relay and order that instead?

burn camper down and get new one with insurance money? lol

btw... when I have to open up one of my window units, I always spend a extra 15$ and install a hard start capacitor in there, a lot easier on the generator to get compressor started up.
