Well then customers cannot not use publicly funded and maintained roads to get to your business. You cannot call the fire department or police. Your insurance rates are not regulated by government standards so they can charge you obscene amounts.

Yet your private business is utilizing public services and laws to operate.

A private business should be able to refuse to cater to anyone or everyone they choose. The free market and word of mouth do a very good job in ensuring which businesses will flourish and which will fail.

Public services that said private business contributes to with taxes as well.

Who do you think contributes more to the public roads and services via taxes and income? The one gay couple I deny service to or a successful local business?

but I fail to see the difference.

is the private business not paying taxes to use the roads and public services?

Question? Are you paying for the roads that customers take to get to your business? Are you paying to keep a private fire department, police dept and medical/emergency staff? Chances are you are utilizing publicly funded services. So I pay taxes for these services for you to use for free, yet I cannot use your business? There should reasonable accommodation laws. Common sense stuff.

So you assume that you pay more in taxes than a business... They have access to these services as well. You however want to tell someone how they can or cannot operate something that you have zero invested in and most likely they have everything invested in.

Talk about entitled, frick.

Well if you have a business you are all but certainly offering services to the general public. The general public pays taxes to have roads, services, government, civil order that your business will all use to be successful. So if your business is going to be a part of that you need to reasonably accommodate people.

What if the amount of taxes your business pays only is enough to fund the fire department for an hour, and what if after 1 hr your business is still on fire? You ok with that since your a private business? What if a cop sits outside your business and tickets you every time someone turns into your business since you discriminate and don't want to serve the general public and cannot use the public roads?

I really do fail to understand the logic behind your premise...

so because a tax paying business has a public road and uses public services, they should be required by law to accommodate everyone?

You are looking at it all wrong. It's not about the individual and his blood sweat and tears going into his business. Chances are that business depends on the government to maintain civil order for his business. The government asks that he be reasonably accommodating. No shirt no shoes no service is fine. Refusing orders because they are too small or too large is fine too. Refusing based on terms of payment is great. Refusing to participate in some type of ceremony of religious nature is fine. Saying hey black guy get out of here is not.

I don't understand your point. If a business pays taxes, they have paid for the services, therefore the services aren't free. Taxes pay for roads and fire departments. Businesses pay taxes, regardless of their customer demographics.

the business pays taxes for these services

the government should not ask this of a private business IMO

who defines "reasonably accommodating"? your "reasonably accommodating" might be different than mine

No shirt no shoes no service is fine.

why is it fine?

And how much do you think the general public pays in taxes in a given year? Are you suggesting that the more you pay in taxes the greater your governmental benefits should be, because that is what your point is implying.

Unless you are a governmental entity, or receive the majority of your funds/revenue from governmental funding; you should be allowed to serve (or not serve) whoever you want. That is what separates a free market from socialism.

You do realize that it's actually OK to offend someone right? No one should be entitled to anything or even have a sense of that, and the government of all entities, should not be able to tell anyone what to do with their private business. If your entitled arse doesn't like my business because I don't want to serve you, then you are welcome to get the frick off of my property and mosey on down that public road of yours.

You realize for a private business owner that is exactly what it is about.

Yea, they pay taxes to use those services. So you can stop using that argument.

The argument presented in the OP is clear as day. If a private business can refuse service for the 2nd ammendment, then why can't it for the 14th?!?

It's fine because it's reasonable. It's common sense.

You are taking a hard line view of it. There is no way any business funds any of these services entirely. Yet the general public funds these entirely. Are at a rate of about 99.9%. So would that business be ok only receiving .1% service.

The government through private citizens ask that you not discriminate via age, sex, race, religion and orientation within reason. I don't see why people are so up in arms. I guess I underestimate the amount of people who want to discriminate....

Safety issue, I get it

Agreed, misread the first time.

quote:

Refusing based on terms of payment is great

Smart business to ensure you are paid for your services/products; however, depending on the guidelines can be viewed as a way to indirectly discriminate based on race (I would not have thought about this personally, except I was reading up on some Fair Housing laws last month that opened my eyes to it)

quote:

Refusing to participate in some type of ceremony of religious nature is fine

Protected under Title VII in employment just like racism, why shouldn't it be as protected as race?

quote:

Saying hey black guy get out of here is not

If you are not allowed to discriminate based on race, why would you be allowed to discriminate against religion or sexual orientation. Both are protected under Title VII when it comes to employment laws.
