You don’t have to, but you can link it to your amazon prime account. When you buy it you also have to download an app to your phone to set it up and can also use the app to where the echo dot can do more things.

Yes, it’s my alarm for every morning along with many other things like weather and newsflash and Spotify.

I'll give you a quick scenario..i work, wife works, 4 kids. 1 in each bedroom and Echo in kitchen.
I can speak to any room thru the intercom type feature. I ask her to play music while in a room and any other question i have for weather, etc

We trained kids to add stuff to shopping list.....notice you've opened the last milk carton? Say Alexa, add milk yo shopping list. It builds the pair so when me or wife is in store, pop open app and see list of things needed.
It works instantly....sets reminders, alarms, lists,

So would i buy 1 alexa and a couple dots? Or could you do it with just dots?

I would need one in Living room, and 2 bedrooms. So how would you set it up?

I noticed one, that looks like you would use in bedroom, and looks like an alarm clock. Would you recommend?

That ho turns on my Christmas tree lights, makes lists, reminds me about stuff, sets timers, adjusts thermostats in house. We have three dots with two hooked up to better speakers.

I have the new Dish Hopper, and guy said something about it being compatible i believe with Alexa/Dot, and would be able to do everything thru them, instead of using the dish remote

You can link your already paid for services to it, like prime, spotify, etc...

I like having it as a radio, it gives me weather information when I wake up (which is nice considering you never freaking now if it will be 30 deg or 70 deg here in LA).

I know a lot of people who use it for timers, alarms,to play games, link it to their appliances at home (tv's, sound system, etc...)

It's pretty cool to have for $30.
