But, on balance, is an anonymous internet more bad than good?

Absolutely not.

Information is shared more rapidly than ever right now. Overall that has been a net positive for society.

We just need to learn how to handle it. And recognize that a lot of what comes at is us total BS. We should welcome the opportunity we have now to learn about alternative world views and opinions. We should not allow technology to become a tool that controls our lives any more than it already has...

You’ve undoubtedly heard the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

This is an obvious road to hell too.

You know damn well that the next terrorist attack in the US will result in all Democrats and most republicans backing some insane censorship strategy "for our own good". They will use public fear and anger to take advantage of the public. That's how they exploit every crisis.

Never mind the fact that the legal and technical tools are already in place to track radical behavior online. How many times has the FBI admitted that mass shooters were "on our radar" already? Removing the anonymous exchange of ideas will not advance safety - but it will advance big government's control over the people and kill any chance for someone like Bernie Sanders or Donald Trump to ever gain power again.

I don't give a frick what anyone says and this isn't a popular opinion, but I think people should be represented on the internet as they are outside of the internet.

Everything you do is linked together. The way I picture it is that there is this platform that has everything you use, social media, places you shop online, etc available on this platform. If you need to buy something on amazon you pull it up and its sort of as if you are there in person. You make at purchase and it is achieved. If there is a new app you want to use, you download it on your platform and it automatically registers you.

The reason I say this is because I think we can agree that more harm has come from social media than good. People hid when they are trying to manipulate people. This platform would give you an option to hide your activity and you can control what others see but everyone navigates as themselves.

And I picture this not on the internet as it is used today. Not on your phone or PC/MAC. The platform has everything appear in 3D and there will be no secondary controls like a mouse or keyboard. It would be similar to your ipad/notebook where you use your hands, but your voice will be used more as a way to input.

I honestly think this would overall be better for society.

Now think about the people arrested for saying the wrong word on Twitter vs the violent criminals who beat the shite out of old ladies who are let out of jail with no bond.

Haley is just a better looking, smarter, and younger Hillary. If we wanted Hillary in the White House, we'd have elected her in 2016.

Having very dictator-like tendencies will remind a lot of men of their ex wives, which is going to be a disaster for her politically.

Maybe, but the problem is the so-called disinformation experts lie as much as anyone.

Information flows faster than at any time in history. The traditional media used to exist to share information. It's obsolete now, so they are trying to justify themselves by being the self-appointed gatekeepers of truth.

The paradox is that nobody gets the be the gatekeeper of truth. The thing about the truth - it exists whether or not it is sanctioned and approved.

Not impossible at all. It's easy and becoming more common.

Off the top of my head, every gambling app has you verify your identity at registration

If you're ever choosing between freedom and the possibility of bigger government protecting you, the answer is freedom.

Haley is a throwback to the old Neocon 2000's GOP. They take a lot of old Democrat globalist policies and paint them with code words like "security" or "patriotism."

It attracted voters in its time period but the results were disastrous and people notice that.

Look at Nextdoor. When it first launched I thought the non-anonymous aspect would make it more civilized. No, it’s horrible. Just awful.
Nextdoor is a cesspool of stupidity and senior citizen grievances.

But there's not a lot of name-calling.

It’s negatively influenced public opinion through things like Twitter bots.
