In all likelihood, the name William was chosen so there would be William V in 2066, one thousand years after the Battle of Hastings. Of course the Sovereign may choose any name as their regnal name, but this makes it legit.

We are talking about that someone 30 generations ago does not make you "family" and especially in reference to families of monarchs.
