Is about to kick in. The gubberment finally figured out how much extra it was costing them to rehab a unit that had been smoked in (in the unlikely event a tenant moves out). And since it’s a fair assumption we are also providing the same bunch with free health care, why isn’t this a good idea? Interviews with smoking occupants suggest that they feel like their rights are being trampled.

There is a saying: Beggars can’t be choosers. Get a job, get your own place, do what you want.

ETA. The article quoted this genius. One of the tenants who smokes shared his thoughts. “People who smoke, it should be they decision, how they live they life and how they feel, you know? Some people need it in the morning, like some people need they coffee in the morning, some people need they cigarette in the morning.”

This is the US of A. They don’t have to get a job, tax dollars will pay for their place and they can absolutely take whatever they want.

this debate should be a magnifying glass on the theme of "when you give people shite for free, they don't value it"

The East Baton Rouge Housing Authority implemented their new smoking policy July 1.

Agreed.

According to the department's smoke-free guidebook, the goal is to reduce cost associated with renovating units after someone has smoked in them.

Just another feel good legislation by government. I guess hanging pictures and putting holes in the wall while doing it will be next.

What are they going to do if the tenant is caught smoking indoors? Evict? To where, another govt home? Fine? Yeah, right.

I'm 100% against drug testing for jobs, but if you are getting free money from the taxpayers, then drug test them motherfrickers too. Same with the cig smoke in the house. If the shite is for poor arse people, and everyone is providing for them with food stamps, housing, etc, then they should be drug free, and also not smoke inside the house. Also, they should start getting these section 8'ers to get their tubes tied or a vasectomy. Like make it an incentive for them, like if you get your tubes tied with no kids, you get $10,000 after the successful surgery. If you get your tubes tide after 2 kids, you just get $1,000.

Also make the section 8'ers have a limit of kids they can have, 3 is the most. Kinda need to cut back on these little frickers reproducing. Also, when a family is on section 8, what % of their offspring will end up on section 8 as well?
