Had microdiscectomy 12 weeks ago l5s1. 6 weeks ago starting getting pain in glute again along with numbness/tingling foot and tight hamstring... Finally had mri today and results say "there is mild enhancement on the left lateral to the thecal sac and around the left s1 nerve roots."

edit: poster below says that means inflammation...

I see my surgeon next monday... but just wanted to see what therapists have to say.

thx

Mrs LCA is a PT and I'll show this to her. She didn't go to school to give away her knowledge and the cost of the experience she has is rather expensive. Do you have your insurance card? Would you rather pay cash?

Enhancement on MRI means inflammation/infection.

I am a Registered MRI tech with 12 years in the field.

EDIT: quit googling shite and go see your surgeon.

I'm glad google went to school to learn how to read and interpret MRI results.

If you would have kept up with the things your PT suggest you'd probably be better off right now.

I've put Off surgery for 14 years on my L5s1. Worried the cure might be worse than the disease.

Haha, it was the PT that made my damn disc explode and forced the surgery.

Neurosurgeon or ortho? Mine was between L4/5 and took a year to fully recover. 6 weeks or so afterward I was back moving around and doing normal stuff.

No offense of why ask PTs of the OT? They don’t read MRIs. Sounds like inflammation/chronic neuritis. Nerves that stay pinched for any length of time can stay irritated for quite awhile after surgery. Infection is likely low on the list but blood work can rule that out. May need a selective nerve root block or medication change. Simple anti inflammatories and stretching can help too. Good luck!
