I spoke with a gentleman yesterday and he only applied for a 2 year membership.
No such animal. Where are you getting your info? Strangers in the lobby?

I got mine in less than a week.

Then you should have yours within 2 weeks unless you have arrests, divorce etc.
Clean record and Ms. Cover is still with me.

I wish I would have done the lifetime membership, and if an option, I will definitely renew it that way.
*NOTE: Lifetime permit cannot be used in lieu of a NICS check when purchasing a firearm.)

I corrected previous reply. I hit the 5 key instead of the 2 key.

Oh ok. Makes sense now.
I have a 5 year currently. When I'm up for renewal I'll do a lifetime. Mine are free (veteran). I'll still have to do NICS checks every time I buy a gun but I'm ok with that. I am trying to get the lifetime in case a new administration starts charging veterans again.

Smart move.
I'm in my early 40s and figured that a lifetime membership will be very cost effective for me in the long run.
Providing I don't get killed any time soon.

I'll update this thread once I get mine in.

I paid for mine last Thursday and received my card in 6 days.
To get your license fast, you must do your fingerprinting at the state police headquarters in Baton Rouge.

This is exactly what I intend to do.

have to renew mine in 2018, first time I'm renewing. How does that compare? Is it as simple as getting your training certificate and mailing in the money, or is it a more cumbersome process?
Basically. They now pull your picture off of the DMV database, so its just a matter of having your paperwork notarized and sending them the money. Normally the renewals will have a faster turnaround than those first applying, but depending on demand you may wait a few months for your new license to arrive. If I were you, I would send the renewal info at least 2 months before your license expires.

approved concealed carry licenses are taking anywhere between 45 - 120 days to receive
Wtf?
Had no idea this was an issue. In Alabama you walk in and hand them an ID and 30 bucks. They run a background check, and 15 minutes later you walk out with a hard copy of the license. What is the hold up?

I always hear the 5 year membership is better.
It just allows you to skip the 4473 when you purchase a firearm.
Some people don't like to fill out the form.

Affirmative.

I took my class in January of 2016, didn't receive my permit until November 2016. I probably still wouldn't have it if I didn't called to see what the hold up was.

I have only seen a military discount on the LSP site. Where can I look up for it being free for veterans?
