As a wily veteran of the marriage game, I thought I’d pass along this bit of wisdom to any newlyweds who dare to believe their spouse when she says “no gifts.”

Mrs. FCP once again assured me yesterday that no gifts were required for Valentines Day this year (just like she has for the past 25+ years we’ve been together), and I brought her home a couple dozen roses, chocolates, and a card, just like I’ve done every other time she said similar things.

It has honestly gotten to the point that her annual “no gifts” proclamation is my de facto reminder to get my lazy arse over to Trader Joe’s.

"Hey honey, it's valentine's this week."

"Gee. You didnt need to get me anything. I didnt want that."

Better safe than sorry baws.

My SO said the same bullshite... I didn’t fall for it. I sent 2-dozen roses to her office with a heartfelt note and she called me in tears.

I’m 100% getting a blowie tonight.

Wrong.

I haven't ever been given a gift for Valentine's Day and this is out 9th one together. I don't hate the holiday, but I honestly don't care about gifts.

We also don't give Christmas and birthday gifts unless there is coincidentally something we wanted to give each other. For example, I got him nothing this year and he gave me a purse. He gave me nothing last year, and I gave him a PS4.

Or you could marry a woman who doesn't set "traps."

We don't do valentine's either. Honestly she'd probably be mad at me for overpaying for roses. I just get her flowers at other random times a few times a year.

My wife never got the memo that women don't really have to buy men equivalent gifts on Valentine's Day. She treats it like Christmas.

I assume someone will tell her one day, but I'm not doing it

Maybe if your wife likes playing shitty games like a teenager? My wife couldn't give less of a frick about this made up spending holiday and we've never done anything for it. I've also never been punished like the stereotypical sitcom male by sleeping on the couch or getting the cold shoulder.

LL is gotta be mid-late 30’s so her getting her SO a PS4 should indicate the type of dude he is... unless she’s dating a young 20-something... and if so, good for her

Wife has never asked me for anything but I just send a plant to her office every year. She seems to like it.

We are getting a heart shaped pizza from papa John's and watching wheel of fortune and Jeopardy with our 4yo before bedtime and maybe there's some cheap flowers involved.

You must be old. Women don't even like this crap anymore.

Unless you do this so it's in front of their friends at work.

That's cute I don't hate Valentine's Day or think there's anything wrong with people having different expectations than I do.

I do think it is bullshite to lie and say you feel one way about the holiday, when you actually feel the opposite. It is immature.

What's wrong with a PS4? Only issue I have is that he used it for ~3 weeks and it hasn't been turned on since.

Also, all of you know my SO.

ALSO YOU MOTHER frickER I AM NOT 30.
