Proud of our neighborhood community last night

There was nothing heroic like saving people's lives from drowning or providing food, clothes, and water for those displaced. It is just another simple gesture that I think represents just how great Louisianans can be:
We happen to luckily live in one of the few neighborhoods in Prarieville completely unaffected by the water, save the minor inconvenience of being basically stuck. So a few of us put together a little potluck with several nice dishes and a few adult beverages. About 10 couples with our 8 or 9 kids. Not so much a celebration--hard to celebrate when others experience so much loss--but rather a gathering of thankfulness and discussion on how to prepare for a future event where we might not be so lucky.
Well, after a few bottles of wine, the womenfolk wanted to drive around the neighborhood and check it out. They were gone about 30 minutes, when the 1st one walked back in exclaiming "We brought some friends." In walked some Austines(extremely nice, but definitely keeping it weird) and their dog. Turns out they were driving to Austin from Maryland and didn't get the memo on the flood.
It had taken them 10 hours to get from the Tanger outlet to Prairieville and they were almost out of gas. They had stopped to let the dog out for a walk when our wives showed up. Not only did they give them a ride back to the party, but as soon as they walked in they were greeted by genuinely sincere and welcoming handshakes, great food, cold beer, and cheap wine. I told my wife we should invite them to spend the night with us, but 2 other couples had beaten us to it. The hospitality offered to this long-bearded, tattoo-sleeved guy from Austin and his hipster girlfriend by a bunch of country baws and their wive's reminded me how proud I am of our Louisiana tribe. We help our own for sure. But we also extend those helping hands to just about anyone destiny puts in our paths. We have the capacity to be incredibly special people.
tl;dr, I know. But after the recent police shootings and the great flood, the selfless actions of so many have invigorated my once-denied pride in this great state--warts and all--that I am proud to call my home.

So did this turn into a swinger or wife swap party with the hipsters?

Not as of the time we left, but I'd like to hope it did later. I fapped imagining it, just in case.

I can appreciate the fine gesture you all made, and the desire to have everyone know that you did something to help someone out, but here's a tip. When folks are displaced, walking the streets, many of whom are children and elderly, don't allow the "womenfolk" to do something this fricking stupid.
Nothing quite like getting tanked up, driving around, and playing frogger with a 4k pound SUV.

I appreciate the OP need to publicize his good deeds.
This however was not a very safe thing to do with kids in the house.

1. Flaunt the fact that you were dry when so many others lost it all.
2. Throw party and get drunk while others have no food....no home and dogs are left for dead.
3. Let the women drive drunk to gawk at the poor folks houses who lost it all.
4. Invite complete strangers to your house around your kids and proceed to get them drunk as well.
5. Post on social media lauding your sainthood for throwing a beer bash while the world floats away.

Perhaps I didn't communicate this very well or you're just an a-hole, but my intent was certainly not to pat myself--or any of my neighbors--on the back. If anything, I feel guilty that we have been so lucky and I don't have a boat or anything to help out. And I conceded it was a small gesture, not worthy of being associated with some of the tremendous heroics I've seen on tv the last few days. But it was my only first-hand experience of people helping people this weekend, and I think it indicative of the bigger idea that in a state that gets constantly shite on nationally, we have the capacity to be great when it comes to helping our fellow man. And though my title literally said I was proud of our neighborhood, I think the overal sentiment was pretty clear that I am proud to be from Louisiana.

I don't recall soliciting a tip, but there were no folks "displaced, walking the streets" of our neighborhood except for the two they brought home.

A couple of the girls were tipsy at best, certainly not tanked. Besides, the one driving was pregnant and had not been drinking. And they were cruising in a golf cart, not an SUV, and they never left the neighborhood.

And the responses from some of these idiots are why you can never be 100% proud.
Glad to see you avoided the bad stuff. I sent you a text the other day checking on you but I figured you had a lot going on.
