1. Flaunt the fact that you were dry when so many others lost it all.
2. Throw party and get drunk while others have no food....no home and dogs are left for dead.
3. Let the women drive drunk to gawk at the poor folks houses who lost it all.
4. Invite complete strangers to your house around your kids and proceed to get them drunk as well.
5. Post on social media lauding your sainthood for throwing a beer bash while the world floats away.
Is this serious?

Citizens safety group puts the kibosh on any joyriding during emergency situations. During Ike we (with backing of FB sherrifs) were able to detain several joyriders. Essential personnel only during these situations is the only way to go. There is a reason our sergeant at arms has been reelected for 10 years running.

Joyriding during a natural disaster isn't just frowned upon here, it's a Class A felony.
I made a motion last night at our Sunday night debriefing to put a 6pm curfew in place for the entire neighborhood. The only exception we make is for pregnant mothers on the way to the hospital.

That's reasonable.
After you have to perform a water rescue of several teens capsizing their kayaks because they thought it would be fun to kayak around in very dangerous conditions you have to draw a line. Putting first responders at risk to save them when they could be used elsewhere.

Well, after a few bottles of wine, the womenfolk wanted to drive around the neighborhood and check it out.
Because this seems completely normal and good decision making.

Only when you're impaired, which the driver was not. And there was no gawking at houses that were damaged. We literally cannot see any from our neighborhood. If anything we were counting our lucky stars to have be so unaffected, especially when juxtaposed with the devastation we saw on tv. It was not some drunken joyride.
2 more things:
1) there were several people their with family from Livingston who had been displaced. One wife hadn't spoken to her father since early Saturday. Another couldn't reach a friend in Walker who was 9 months pregnant.
2) this started as a birthday party for a 6-year-old who was devasted that his party--planned for Saturday outside--having to be cancelled. So his parents invited their adult friends with kids to come over and at least let him have a cake and blowout some candles. We ate, drank, watched the news, and had some very non-celebratory conversations.
I can't tell if all these posts are trolling me or I have done a poor job of conveying my message of being proud of Louisiana and its great citizens. Though some of you assholes are making me rethink that last part.

Glad to see you avoided the bad stuff. I sent you a text the other day checking on you but I figured you had a lot going on.
Thank you for getting it. Didn't get your text. I have changed phones and phone numbers. I'll hunt your number down from and old phone and text you from the new number.

Jesus Christ, nobody was joyriding. They were making sure all our neighborhood houses were safe from water, which they luckily were. Our streets were perfectly dry, literally zero water on any of the streets. (Kids were riding bikes and playing at the neighborhood park earlier.) They were not putting themselves in danger, and certainly not 1st responders. It was more of a reconn trip. That and I think they wanted to get out of the house for a few minutes and away from the stir-crazy kids bouncing off the walls for 3 straight days.
Is this not still fricking America? Am I not allowed to ride around my own fricking neighborhood to survey the situation? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Having lived in Austin, I was admittedly more excited that they were from there than Guatemala. Though I do need cheap labor for building a fence. They are basically Mexicans, right?

This was one of the things we talked about last night. Our neighborhood is taking over the HOA from the developer next month. Some people were scared of an incompetent President, I was more scared of a tyrannical one. What if I want to tin-foil my windows and let my grass grow 10 feet(I wouldn't do these, obviously, just making a point)? They fine me? What if I tell them to kiss my arse and gfy? What authority do they legally have beyond that?
This is the first HOA I'll have 1st hand experience with, but some friends have told me of some nightmarish stories. Seems all HOAs are passive aggressive assholes who will leave you anonymous letters with demands, timeframes, and potential fines rather than have a face-to-face conversation.

They're like that roommate you had in college who'd leave post its on the fridge that said, "If you want to eat cereal, buy your own milk," or in the bathroom that say, "buy your own toilet paper," or in the laundry room that say, "please don't throw your gym socks in my load of colors."
