Replacing where a tank water heater was at. Is the risk of the tankless water heater busting and leaking still there? Greater risk or same risk as tank water heater?

More efficiency of tankless? How much or negligible (electric not gas)

The pros are that it’s 2021 and there is no reason not to have a tankless water heater besides being poor.

Isn't the shorter line distance and faster hot water one of the points of tankless system?

I have to turn on both sinks and the shower then listen to one song before I get hot water.

i guess i was looking at a primary benefit of tankless would be to not have it in the attic... but if moving and running lines adds too much cost then it ain't worth it. If i put tankless where the tank was, am i still running a risk of a water claim down the road?

Do they get as hot as the old kind, though? I like my water pretty hot, Gene.

Kind of defeats the purpose?

If this is really the case then you need to get a small pump installed on yours.

I would think the possiblity of leaking is less with tankless.

I put one in the attic when we built our camp several years ago. I have one at our new house but we built it into an outside wall (on the side of the house).

Will not go back to a tank.

Home/Garden board has several good threads about them.

I chose Rinnai and have had good luck with them.

In regards to busting/leaking. The only leaks you could have is at the plumbing connections.

I have mine installed in the attic and have never had a problem. It has a drain pan similar to an a/c in the attic. I am 100% sold on the tankless and would do it again. That is assuming you have natural gas.

Just had to get one a few months ago after tank one busted. Water does not get quite as hot but my main complaint is I or wife have had to go in the attic several times to reset the damn thing. It will be cold water and it will read 110 error . You have to reset it , sometimes several times before it will stay on setting of 120. Sucks early in the morning when this happens... that’s all I got

Well, installing it is a tankless job.

We had two Noritz installed 11 years ago when we built our house. Wouldn’t look back for a second. Ours are attached outside but they are gas. Endless hot water, no risk of rusting out water tank inside home, will be cheaper in the long run as water is only heated as you need it so I think it’s cheaper when you run the numbers. Even if it does cost a little more, it’s so much better.

Not one single problem so far. Seriously.

Installed a Rinnai about 12+ years ago and have never had any issues. Mine was installed outside, on wall nearest to the kitchen.

Pro - never run out of hot water
Con - takes a while to get hot water to bathrooms that are nowhere near the kitchen

Plumber insisted on outside installation because of venting issues, and my attic was not an option. I would suspect that even if it's installed in your attic, that you will need a good system to vent the heat out.
