Republicans just spent 4 years bitching that a single $600 check to people who couldn't work for several months during COVID caused massive inflation and now they want to turn around and give everyone $5k.

Hmm...

The prevailing belief here is "Democrats cause inflation, Not MAGA."

It is vote buying, pandering, or whatever you want to call it. It’s bad when the democrats or republicans do it.

Have the checks been mailed, or is there a plan in place to issue them? Or is this all just hyperbole and political posturing, because OMB.

Particularly considering most of the country doesnt pay 5k in federal taxes.

Its a stimulus when a stimulus isnt necessary.

I’m against it but it isn’t the same as the COVID stimulus checks. The stimulus checks involved the government printing more money.

This, in theory, is a reallocation of money already printed and earmarked for usage. I’d agree that this is more accurately defined as “redistribution of wealth”…..which also isn’t a popular phrase here.

damn baw. you seem really wrapped up in all of this. take a deep breathe.

personally, I haven’t had a chance to catch up on the political Twitter-sphere this today. Busy with work and my kids.

eta: I don’t want a $5k stimmy. Don’t need it. And pray whatever you’re whining about doesn’t come to fruition.

Actually the $5,000 would only go to taxpayers. So, less than half the country.

shite, they (Trump version 1.0 included) took the lazy way out with all of the bullshite Covid stimulus and issued blanket checks to everyone. Not just to people out of work or negatively impacted by the shutdown......everyone. Hell, I know people who missed no work, actually got overtime, got a bump in pay for their trouble, and still got the checks. To make it even more egregious, some of the money that funneled down from the money the states got from the Federal Covid grants was given to these same people in the form of a bonus for "working through the pandemic"......TWICE.

Some people made out quite well from the pandemic and our government's response to it, and they're just regular arse people. I wouldn't expect a much better thought out approach with this new pile of money they "found".

CONS

• Probably some, but I can't think of any
The obvious one is thst you’ll have to pay it back later (plus interest) since our government is $35Trillion in debt.

Which is why its in my individual best interest for them to chop down debt, not give stimulus checks.

They can take my five grand and put it on a timeshare at one of the fancy resorts they're going to build in Gaza.
