This is a retarded way of thinking by anyone who is of the group of citizens doing the bulk of the consuming. Y’all are fricking morons.

Who does the shift to consumption tax hit the hardest: a baw living Section8 buying single cigarretts or a plant operator buying F250s, sisexsides, boats and washers and dryers?

This. Consumption taxes are the fairest and most equitable taxes that reach the widest number of people.

I would be very much in favor of abolishing the federal income tax and replacing it with sales taxes.

Everyone is better off. You only get taxed if you choose to consume. Food and basic necessities would be exempt from sales taxes just like they already are in many states already. This would prevent the poor from being affected disproportionately by the tax.

The key would be to not have any loopholes for rich people to get out of paying taxes like with the current income tax code.

And no I don’t care if some leftist college professor calls it a “regressive tax” from his classroom. Everyone one would be better off with this system. You only get taxed when you choose to purchase unnecessary extras and luxury items that are nonessential. Savers would not pay taxes.

Wrong. See my post above. You have to be pretty dense to not understand that paying taxes on only the portion of your income that you spend is better than paying taxes on your entire income.

I remember when something like this was called a "flat tax". I remember lefties losing their shite. They hate paying taxes. That is for their enemies.

They love to shite all over you but will gladly hold their hands out for your money. Your money is their money, after all. "You didn't build that".

What about every other tax expert or economist (many to most of which are conservative)?

Yes, the rest of the world economies, who use this system, are better than the US economy. Makes perfect sense

Because with income tax, it can be avoided if you work in a job where you get paid partially or entirely in cash. You think illegals are paying taxes? And its not just illegals, but plenty of jobs where people easily get away with not reporting all of their income....hair dressers, waiters, bartenders, any job with a lot of cash tips, handymen jobs, self employed small contracting jobs.

If you get paid cash, its not hard to avoid paying income tax or at least pay a lot less than you would owe if you were reporting all your income. But those people can't avoid paying consumption and sales taxes.

You're basically offsetting the income tax cuts by expanding the tax base to where more people are actually paying taxes.

You talk the talk until you have an additional 10-15-20% (hypothetically) on a large purchase. Or maintenance service, etc. It makes a known an unknown.

Were you one of the baws supporting the lowering of individual rates for giving up the deduction for Fed tax paid? Yeah that costs me more money just like I knew it would.

Until spending is cut all this tax swap talk is moot anyway hoss.

Too low. 20% minimum, more likely 25%-30%

The average new car purchase would come with a $15,000 tax bill lmao.

Bourre would be PISSED to come back from offshore just to find out his wife paid $30k in taxes on her new tahoe.

It would not be this high. There would be no standard deduction or any other deductions or tax credits and so the base rate would not need to be nearly as high.

Also, as I said earlier, the basic necessities of life would not be taxed. Only extras. I won’t feel bad for a rich guy who buys an offshore boat with three 300 HP Mercury outboards on the back of it because he had to pay some extra sales taxes (especially considering that none of his six figure income was taxed in the first place).

He won’t be buying it because he doesn’t have the cash flow to pay the 5 figure tax bill. Or are we now in favor of financing tax payments?

And I'm sure you won't feel bad for the boat builders trying to make a living whose product just became unprofitable at a price their customers were willing to pay.

Something else that needs to be done in a bad way in this country.

You won't have as many welfare recipients with the latest Iphone. It would be glorious, but then again, this is what pisses off the leftists and centrists.

My taxes ARE NOT going up. My income taxes are going down, and I have no intention of using that extra money to buy Chinese trinkets, just so I can pay extra sales tax on that bullshite

Yes, drastic cuts to spending. Not monumental taxing system changes that make everyone worse off

If I’ve leaned a single thing from the OT its that iPhone purchases are the single biggest and most debilitating yolk around the neck of the populace. It is by miles and miles the most frequently cited reason for financial stress. A distant second would be the 50 dollar a month internet bill.

Hell it seems like most of the population would be financially independent if not for the 25 bucks a month they spend on their interest free smartphone bill.
