Is he marketing it as healthy? He didn't in that article at least. Vegan isn't a synonym for healthy. It just means no animal products.

There's really two major vegan camps (and one isn't vegan at all) and they get conflated. There are healthy 'ethical vegans' but you don't have to be healthy to be an ethical vegan. You could eat nothing but beyond burgers, chips, fries, and candy and wash it down with Mountain Dew. You just don't eat or use any animal products. These are true vegans and a lot of them also eat fake meat.

Then you have the WFPB side (which I'm on). We're not necessarily vegan but we get lumped in. Since our entire diet is based on eating whole unprocessed foods, fake meat is a non-starter for us from the jump.

Anyone conflating fake meat with healthy is either confusing the two camps or flat out lying to you.

I'm right there with you on the whole foods only. I also eat tons of veggies and fruit.

But the no meat part just baffles me.

I will say though that the animal products I eat are specifically wild caught fish, grass fed red meat and pork/chicken/eggs from a farm about 40 minutes away so I know the quality of what I'm getting, and more importantly, the quality of the feed the animals are getting. And it just simply tastes much better than store bought mega farm crap.

If you'd pay attention you'd already know and it wouldn't change anything.

I would be shocked to find out most vegans eat fish.

That's the other difference between WFPB and vegan. A WFPB diet does allow for animal products in moderation according to a lot of adherents. What "plant based" means hasn't really been nailed down. Some say over 50% of your calories from plants is plant based, some say none at all, or anywhere between.

I used to eat meat a few times a year but just gradually tapered out as it didn't seem to offer much benefit. Never fricked with dairy at all, though.

I don't understand the premise. How does their restaurant not killing chickens make cfa go out of business? That'll just leave more chickens for cfa lol

And it's not like chickens have a long lifespan or contribute to society some other way by being kept alive.

These "1 million chickens saved" were specifically bred and hatched to be eaten, what will those million chickens do now? Either go to a different processing plant and end up on someone's plate either way, or die of old age in 3 years

This exercise is a totally pointless virtue signal and this restauranteur is just trying to hop on a trendy train.

EVERYBODY SAVE THE POOR CHICKENS THAT WOULDN'T EVEN BE ALIVE TODAY IF THEY WEREN'T HATCHED TO BE EATEN! JUSTICE FOR THE CHICKENS!

My god man how can you not see the benefit of delicious, delicious bacon?

Just giving you a hard time of course. It's odd how I could in no way, shape, or form be vegan, yet my diet is closer to theirs than your typical american diet.

I laugh at this too. I eat far closer to paleo or even keto than someone that eats the SAD.
