Okay. So how will cars that want to go to interstate get there?
I'd guess that's the destination for the majority of cars leaving the airport.
Now we will crowd loyola and veterans where there is already tons of traffic

It’s IB Freemen. Dude is a lunatic. Just ignore him.

Looks very cohesive, modern & nice! But smaller than I had envisioned. Great improvement over the current old hodgepodge of concourses.

fricking politicians families are not supposed to use existing law to "get ahead".
So they are supposed to be held back because their family is in office?
frick that.
They are exploiting a loophole that anyone can take advantage of. I'm not saying it is pretty, but them being politician's family isn't what makes this shitty.

That's not an office building. That's a hotel.
Maybe the plaza?
WTC is going to be hotel on the bottom with "residences" above it.
Plaza is dead in the water from everything I have heard. Will be years unless South Market/Standard goes way better than expected. Which doesn't look likely.

BS. Every concourse used in the current airport has been renovated over the last 10 years.
Fares will increase with the new gate fees.
I don't see how the new airport will be more convenient.

Landrieus---they created the loopholes.
You are probably proud of all the delays in French Quarter too.

The A terminal has been out of commission for years. I remember when I was a kid my grandmother flew out of that terminal to Shreveport for work. That was the early 80’s

Help me out here. What's going to happen to the relatively brand new rental car center and parking garages that were just built? Is that stuff going to be scrapped or are they going to have shuttle buses from over there to the new terminal?

THat would be cool. Why haven't they been able to already?

It's being moved to the North Terminal.
The current rental car center was paid for from Federal "9/11 safety grants".

Haven't been in the quarter in months. I also know how impossible a job like that is. Think the mayor/council had some really bad advice on how complicated that project would be.

Increases the number of gates rented out to airlines from 22 to 30. All security checkpoints are in one location.
MSY only currently has 22 active gates? That sounds low to me, but could be right.
It seems like there are at least 4 or 5 gates closed on B, C & D, plus everything in A. Why are we building this place again? (Aside from a plaque with Mitch's name on it.)

Yes, shuttle buses
frick MSY then. Any airport that utilizes busses for rental car center is a POS. Walking distance is the best but a train is also nice. They just made business travelers trips just a bit more annoying. I had no problem with the old terminal.

t's referred to as the "North Terminal." I don't know what they have planned for the original terminals on the south side. It would be kind of silly to break commercial airline terminals up onto two opposite sides of the airport.
I think the plan is for the existing terminal to be used for straight cargo freighters and general aviation.

Shuttle like most other airports do.
They have a tunnel under the airport they may use.
Long ago it was supposed to be a bypass from airline to veterans and it was never opened.

Concourse A has been closed for about 20 years. I think it was mid/late '90s. I believe it was determined that the asbestos abatement would be cost prohibitive because it only had few gates - less than 10, maybe 7 or 8.

Are you sure about it being moved to the north side? I know there was talk about using a tunnel under the east/west runway for access, but there were security concerns. If they're building a whole new rental center, that makes this boondoggle even dumber.

Because by the time you renovate the existing terminal to accommodate wider body planes, consolidate security and concessions, and a whole host of other changes (while the airport still has to operate, mind you), you wind up spending even more money than a new terminal.
An airport is a lot more than just a building. It's a high tech 24/7 logistical center.
