Its amazing how quickly people forgot about this after the flood less than two years ago. It should have been a top priority for JBE. Graves even talked to Trump and Pence about it when they came to tour the damage.

Hey, is Garrett Graves a son or grandson of the late Bob Graves who was Edwin's Sec. Of Transportation?

I would feel safer if we just threw $1B in the Mississippi River and prayed to the water gods.

With the way shite gets done in Louisiana we'd definitely hear from the water Gods before the legislature on this issue.

Looks like the Comite Diversion Canal project will now receive 100% funding from the feds. Does anyone have any idea how long it will take to complete the project?

USACE just dumped about $350M into Comite Diversion this afternoon. Totally different funding than GG is waving around. I'll believe the $1.5B is real when it hits the coffers. Until then, it's just a fairytale.

It was quickly forgotten because it wouldn't have helped much at all. The vast majority of the water came from the main Amite basin, not the Comite.

ETA - I'm not saying the project isn't worthy, just that 8/2016 isn't what it is designed to mitigate. The real benefit will be to the repetitive loss areas in the north/central parts of the parish that get hit by more frequent backwater from the Comite.

Funding stream doesn’t do shite if the board can’t / won’t negotiate for land to use for the project and just parties with the funds instead.

I assume you mean the "Commission"......

It’s our there. It’s no fairytale. The Federal Register hasn’t been released publicly yet. Said register will be the written rules that govern the spending of the CDBG dollars. I’ve seen multiple presentations and it’s all a matter of time.

It’s been delayed at least once already. I’ve heard early 2019. Louisiana has unique plans to do very different things with these dollars compared to in the past. Making the rule writing process more of a challenge than before I’m sure. They’re on board with the plans on a state level but they have to place rules on how funding may be used while still providing flexibility.

Patience.
