n fair question
anyone who had an A in the class would have checked the 6 point option with the goal in mind of getting more then 10% so it would hurt the others who do not have As
they would be more concerned with class rank....
Agree, assuming there is some type of curve in place, if everyone in the class gets 2 points it's the same as no one getting them...
6 points is definitely the correct answer.
If you select 6 points, there is a chance that you will end up with 4 additional points that 90% of the class didn't get.
If you select 2 points, then best case scenario you have the same amount of extra points as everyone in your class, but more likely there will be some classmates that have a 4 point advantage on you.

6 for me. I'm betting less than 10% of the rest are as selfish and self-centered as I am.

I do this when I go out to bars. "Ladies you can either choose to suck me off or frick me, but if more than 10% of you choose to frick I'm just gonna go home and jerk-off."
I end up jerking off a lot.

This is dumb because 2 points don't really help on a test and of course its impossible to get the 6% and it's impossible to get the 2% as people are greedy. And this is Germans, but no one called it.

Nash equilibrium.
Students should have read up on it before they chose 6 points.

Teaching socialism as a moral issue is unethical. He basically said "if you care about yourself more than the collective, you're going to be punished".
Capitalism is based on the idea that everyone working toward their own good is beneficial to the collective, and not in a limiting way like socialism. With capitalism, everyone isn't guaranteed a six, but they're not limited to a 2.
This is why so many college graduates today are really no more "educated" than they went in.

Don't you mean "no more than 14 of the remaining 149"?

Would have been interesting to see the result if he said the names would NOT be anonymous.

John Nash and Matthew Broderick approve of this

This is exactly right. One other point is that it is exceedingly unlikely that you will be the vote that pushes the class from 9.9% to 10%. The odds are high that the 10% threshold will be met (or not) irrespective of your vote - so you should discount its importance accordingly.
I talked my wife through this last night. I bet there is a strong gender bias in these answers, with women being more likely to say 2%. That is what she said at first but I won her over with the sheer overpowering force of my masculine logic.

Need more info. Are there more than 50 questions to where 2 points makes a difference? How many total students? If its like 60 I know there are more than 6 jackasses so o go low, 20-30, depends on my confidence on the material and the original question of 2 points means I get to miss 1 freebie

Conversely, it's a Tragedy Of The Commons scenario. eg, if everybody overfishes, eventually nobody gets any fish.

The dumbasses probably didn't realize that if less than 10% of the class had chosen 6 points that they would all get 6 points in the end.

WTF?
Damnit man,
did you even read the frickin' paragraph in the OP?
It clearly states "final paper grade," twice. It says absolutely nothing about a test or any questions.
GTFO, moron.
You too, Napoleon!
