Obviously it was not that big a deal to begin with. 6 points is great, but 2? What's that going to do for the majority? People are selfish. I would have been one of the ones for 6 and chanced it. Now if it were 10 and 5, then it becomes sticky.

This is fricking stupid. Unless the class is on game theory or economics I see absolutely no justifiable reason for this kind of game. Extra credit is meant to serve as a buffer for all of the missed points from unknown variables that aren't related to the student failing to understand the material. It's a learning environment not a fiefdom to live out power fantasies

This is exactly right. One other point is that it is exceedingly unlikely that you will be the vote that pushes the class from 9.9% to 10%. The odds are high that the 10% threshold will be met (or not) irrespective of your vote - so you should discount its importance accordingly.
I talked my wife through this last night. I bet there is a strong gender bias in these answers, with women being more likely to say 2%. That is what she said at first but I won her over with the sheer overpowering force of my masculine logic.
