RIP Mrs J

Remember her well. I assume she's been gone for a while now? She was pretty old when I was still there.

DSHS is one of the best schools in the state, better than any private school in BR.

This isn't remotely true.

Agreed. It's way better than any non magnet public school in BR but it's not better than most of the private schools.

I've had a kid in both DSHS and a private school in BR.

Theyre both A rated schools. Denham junior is the top rated middle school in Livingston the last 4 years. My kid just left Denham jr and loved it. He’s at the HS now and loves it. What’s not to be a fan of?

Too many kids just don't have the reinforcements they need at home to succeed in school, and it distracts the serious students.

I don't trust the school ratings. I suspect some of the schools have discovered ways to manipulate them. No evidence - just a hunch.

You have half the population at the school (school population is at 2000 at the moment) who is not going to college. They frick around and start shite with teachers/disrupt class on a daily basis. These kids do not want to learn. They don’t give a frick.

This is spot on.

So you don’t have any evidence just go with the typical if it’s a private school it’s better than a public school. Gotcha.

Has Denham finally got their ACT average up to 20 yet?

Yes and has for several years. 21.2 this past year. That seems really good especially with all juniors required to take the ACT including special education students etc.

Parkview was recognized as a Blue Ribbon School this year.

One of the most overblown awards known to man. They fill out the paperwork to be considered. And all you need is a top 10 percent to score well on AP exams and ACT. You think the average Parkview student is helping this cause?

The average episcopal student gets kicked out of there and has to go to Parkview

It’s literally a White flight commuter suburb that exists for middle class families to not have to pay for private schools.

I thought it was pretty clear that I was expressing opinions, not facts.

I’ve had two kids go to DSHS. My opinion? Not impressed AT ALL. That’s why I’m asking about private schools. Thanks for all of the input. :)

Of course, the possibility is very real that my kids were part of the problem and the school will be better now that they’re gone.

Not sure where in DS you live but I’d send them to St. Jean Vinney or St. Thomas More. Then to St. Michael’s.

If you’re commuting into BR you could look at OLOM, Episcopal, St. James, etc.
