Bottom line Is when schools and daycare reopen parents need to make sure you keep your kid home if they have any fever or any symptoms

Not sure if anyone knows what will happen in a few months. If people are still testing positive and there’s no vaccine yet,

Everyone agrees that in a few months there the virus will still be out there, people will still get it, and there will not be a vaccine yet. The guidelines were established with these things in mind. Waiting for zero positives or a vaccine is not a sustainable option.

My wife teaches at a elementary public school here in Baton Rouge and they had a conference call today with the principal. The principal said from what she is hearing, she told everybody to prepare to teach from home next school year. She told everyone to come up to the school Monday and Tuesday to get what they need out of their classroom to take home because the school will be locked up going forward. She told them if it does happen to have a background decorated with school stuff to make it look like a classroom while they are teaching.

I’m not reading through this whole thread. Has anyone mentioned the possibility that the principal just fired your wife?

Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

This post—which is 100% spot on—has gotten 44 upvotes to only 2 downvotes at the time of this reply. Yet, almost all of the responses indicate the complete opposite sentiment. Interesting, though most on here are too stupid to realize just how stupid they are.

Of course parents should be planning to homeschool next year. I don’t think it will happen, but there is a possibility—however slight—that it will. Why not prepare for that—the worst—as the author of the post I quoted suggests? Doesn’t it just make common sense that it’s much better to be over prepared than under? Like the old adage “I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.”

And those criticizing the principal are equally as stupid. The principal doesn’t have the power to not re-open schools. At the lowest level, that decision would be made by individual school boards, but more likely The Louisiana Department of Education in conjunction with Governor Edwards’ administration. I’m sure this particular principal was relaying information/chatter she had gotten from the school board, other principals, or the LDE and wanted to make sure the parents of her school “prepared for the worst.”

I just fail to see any justifiable criticism of this particular principal in this particular incident. Seems she is acting prudently by giving the parents as much notice as she can that this is(again, though slight) a possibility so they have time to prepare. As a parent of 2 school-aged kids myself, I would love to know now rather than August. One silver lining in all this is I think parents will be much more involved in their children's educations once they return to school, as we’ve seen 1st hand what they’re up against.

This is absolutely a possibility and has been discussed with teachers in TX as well. As much as we hope that things are somewhat normal by August, there is a possiblity that they won't. If public places are still monitoring capacity, I'm not sure that we can have 1000+ students/teachers in close quarters for extended periods of time.

This is absolutely being considered from universities on down. Several universities are in discussions on delaying start dates or only offering online courses. There are several models being discussed for K-12 programs. It would be less than wise to not prepare for the possibility that students will not return. It’s safe to say, school as you have known it will no longer be.

Well, then, I guess it is safe to say that life, as we know it, will never be the same. Because, who is going to watch all the little shits when people can actually go back to work?

We’re gonna teach from home until the day after Biden wins the election.

It's not a school's responsibility to provide daycare for your little shits. The safety of the staff and students is the most important consideration. It's impossible to have mandated social distancing policies, but expect school staff to throw caution to the wind to babysit your children.
