but once the storms roll into the mountains they almost always dissipate and we don’t get weather anywhere close to what’s been predicted.
This is an area of research that kind of fascinates me. Like you said, sometimes/some areas the mountains tend to kill storms. But other mountainous areas can do the opposite. There's really good research going on right now in the Sand Mountain area of NE Alabama. It is studying the local climate and Mesoscale features to see why storms tend to ramp up coming into that area. There are similar efforts in other areas. I want to say it is being studied in WV, maybe.
I need to read up on it more.

Did we ever get a confirmation on where that tornado was on the ground near/through NOLA?

I haven't seen it. I'm sure they'll survey first thing in the morning. I don't know the area enough to really say.
ETA: If you're on Twitter, follow NWS New Orleans and they will post updates as they have them.

Robertsdale and Summerdale, those speed traps over in Baldwin Co have a tornado on the ground and a TDS.

Appreciate it, didn't have a chance to scroll all the way through and see if it had been reported. Heard from about half of my NOLA friends but the one closest to the storm was off Frenchman and they left town today.

It may have touched down sporadically in a few spots on the westbank.. Gretna Park and lifted, then a couple of spots in Terrytown then lifted. But it was on the ground for good at the Mississippi River then entered Arabi and was on the ground until Joe Brown Park where it lifted.

I live in Bon Secour, tornado came across Ft Morgan into the bay, came back on shore just west of Bon Secour. Went thru Magnolia Springs, Summerdale and Robertsdale. Apparently just lifted at I-10 between 59 and the Beach express.
No damage reports so far..

Some Cherokee elders say the moon eyed people protect this area from weather if you’re interested in that sort of super natural explanation

I live in west Mandeville and have been tracking systems for years including even up to the minute or hour.
Bad weather systems tend to break north or south of here for whatever reason.

Looks like the Robertsdale/Pensacola area is in for a long night. Based on the radar it looks like the bands are moving more north than east? Is that correct or will this system continue to move east similar to what we saw in Baton Rouge today? Asking because I have family in Foley.

I think tangipahoa parish gets worse weather than St. Tammany

I live between Gulf Shores and Foley in Bon Secour, looks like we have 1 more band coming thru and that should be the end of the action in Baldwin Co tonight. Fl and eastern Al are still getting bad weather.
The storms are tracking S to N but moving east slowly..

Have friends near the intersection of Terry Pkwy. and Belle Chasse Hwy. and they checked in saying they're fine. No damage.

Didn’t mean to downvote. Thanks, that last band was close for comfort.

Fb video was removed
fox 8 got to 1:30 mark

In the video you can see a Cruise ship had just passed. It's just on the other side the tornado in the first pic.

I’d be interested in seeing what they come up with. Storms do explode after crossing the Tombigbee River valley (less vegetation in agricultural areas providing more lift?) then crush NW Alabama. I live south of Birmingham and we call I-59 our shield—always much worse north and west of it!
